Still cheaper than most aftermarket sets and buying a set of good used Porsche OEM ones that don't need refinishing.

If it's totally painted then yes - stripped, filled, re-painted/powder coated, tire remounted/balanced.

Suggestion
If it's got a polished lip, then the lip needs to be welded/filled with like metal, put on a lathe and re-cut etc.

Suggestion
Have always been curious as to how the rim is repaired, assuming it gets filled with some sort of rim filler then sanded and painted?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

$150/rim refinished and powder coated. I used Hot Rides in Morrisville, PA, same place i buy tires and who installed my radar & touchscreen stereo upgrade. They also have a store in Ewing, NJ.
I just mine in my garage. I did the same with my Boxster and it held well for 4+ years (sold it). A little sanding, bindi and German wheel silver paint. Im not much of a perfectionist but look pretty good. That wanted 150 a rim here non powder coated.
After. I should have did the whole rim.

[QUOTE=Looneybin;16552835]rims look nice, but WTH is a tomato pie?[/
Trenton
tomato pie or New Jersey tomato pie is a type of circular, thin-crust Italian tomato pie created in
Trenton
, New Jersey, United States around the early 20th century in which cheese and other toppings are added on first, then the sauce.
I like traditional pizza. Tomato pie is also big in Philadelphia.
It depends on the wheel. If it's totally painted then yes - stripped, filled, re-painted/powder coated, tire remounted/balanced. If it's got a polished lip, then the lip needs to be welded/filled with like metal, put on a lathe and re-cut etc. In the case of two or three piece wheels, if the lip/barrel is too far gone, it'll just be replaced. * these are generalizations - different shops may have different methods (and pricing will be reflected by method).
I do remember seeing a video online months ago showing a DIY repair/refinishing. Ill see if i can find it and post it. I had rims and calipers ceramic coated after these pictures were taken.
I just bought the german silver repair kit. It's a wurth product. I am not going to say the quality is likely as good as a pro but your talking $100 for 4 versus 600 in my area not powder coated.
If you go purposely looking for flaws you might see, but otherwise I think they came out really well. More prep the better.
I just used part of my stimulus check to have all of my wheels straightened, trued and refinished with powder-coat. I am extremely happy with the work and glad I could send some business out to our community. I was surprised that all four needed straightening and truing.
It seems like $100-150 is the going rate to repair and refinish the wheels. I ended up just over that because I changed colors, center caps repainted and tires removed and new ones put on so minus the tires it was around $165 a wheel. Still cheaper than most aftermarket sets and buying a set of good used Porsche OEM ones that don't need refinishing. I looked into new wheels and tires but I would have been at least $2k and my total was $1130 with new tires.
Congrats on the new car and welcome. Just to let you know this the 911 996 forum and you might want to head over to the Box

I called around to have a rim straightened and they were telling me it can't be done. Makes it weaker, too brittle Etc.
How can I tell if a shop is capable of this kind of repair? my rims are not bad but before I put new tires on I'd like to have them restored.
