Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace with oem' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check codes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Yes, as I remember full service when they used paper towels to clean the windshield at the local Gulf Gas station and gas was 29 9/10 for regular and 34 9/10 for premium and I believe Sunoco 260 was around 36 cents a gallon.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 miles into our daily 120 mile R/T to take my wife to medical treatment I get the dreaded CEL and dashboard warning about driving to shop or something like that. All gauges normal, no stalling, shuddering, nada. Car sounded and felt fine. Immediately turned around, drove home, switched cars and continued on to treatment. Havent had a single issue in 30k miles in just under 2 years.
Will hook up my durametric when i get home and check the codes. No idea what to expect. Will report back. 2003 4s 52,200 miles.
Had aftermarket gas cap. Kept throwing codes, so replaced with OEM. Heard some people say close and turn for 5 clicks. Sounds like overkill, but could be wrong.
I always have a

in the car in case this happens. Worth the investment. Usually a SAI pump sensor or something in my case.
Will check both gas cap and oil cap when i get home. Gas was filled yesterday and I remember the attendant clicked it several times. Car was driven 100 miles post fill-up last night with no issues. Engine bay hasn't been opened in a while, can the oil cap work its way loose over time? Last oil change was 4k miles in November. Not overly concerned, it will be what it will be. Thx for prompt responses.
Wow! Had no idea! Do they check your oil and wash your windows like in the old days? I remember as a kid wanting the coin dispenser the attendant wore on his belt in the old days when you paid in cash.
Several places still use a squeegee on your windows, though nobody checks oil anymore. Something to be said for staying inside when its pouring rain or snowing out, and if you frequent the same stations they get to know you and the car. They actually remember to hang the gas cap using the cord and not let it just hang down. Still lots of old school 2 bay indy gas station/mechanic shops around too.

As kids, on Sat afternoons, we used to hang around the local gas station drinking soda while checking out all the machinery that pulled up to the pumps.
Wow, there are no full service station around here anymore.
Not a big deal to me, but for my 80 year old MIL, it sure would be nice.
I used to keep a cheap scanner in my car.
Now I have a Kiwi 3 for my Harry's Lap Timer in my car, so when I got my second CEL in 3.5 years last week I pulled over, grabbed it and read the code.
I carry a cheap code reader in my wife's mini van too.
People at church kept asking me bring my Snap-on scanner to read codes after church, so I bought a cheap reader to leave in the mini van for that.
If they need further diagnostics they need to bring me their car to troubleshoot with my better scanner and/or scope.
My son now has the old cheap scanner in his car.
I'm planning on buying a new car for my daughter to learn how to drive in soon.(no mini van or manual Porsche for learning) and I guess I'll have to(get to) buy another scanner and some tools for it too..
Driving to Watkins Glen for a DE in my 944, stopped in NJ to fill up (never filled up in NY, prices were always way high), I got out of the car and started to pump my own gas. The attendant came running over with a look of horror on his face. I apologized for the faux pas and gave him a tip for just watching me. There was no way I was going to let an attendant bang the pump handle off the rear quarter or spill gas all over it.
Way back in the day I had to work in my father's auto part store in MA after school (lived in NH). I had almost no gas in the car and only about 70 cents to my name. That got me just over a gallon and about 4 miles from the parts store before I ran out of gas in my 77 Camaro.
