Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Posted prior threads on coolant leak that looks like at AOS coolant hose connection. Learned from Porschetech3 that coolant to AOS is to stop water vapor from turning to ice. In Pensacola, average of a dozen days under 32 degrees F, maybe hit low 20s couple nights a year and it's warming up. Going to do UAOS in the future. In my 50 mile round trip commute losing from max to min on expansion tank; so not a tiny drip. Anyone disconnect the coolant to and from the AOS? If so by plugging lines or joining together in a bypass?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found some threads that discussed this issue. One in very heated terms where the posters attacked each other's intelligence but at least not the sexual proclivities of their mothers.

They know they're unlikely to ever cross paths and be held accountable for their actions.

Older engines are easier to work on and look cooler because you don't have all these external hoses cluttering access. When changing our AOS I was eyeing those 2 coolant lines and wondering if they needed to be connected, or if I could just cap off and make it easier to access in the future and it would look cleaner and less places to leak. But I don't yet understand the theory and operation of the AOS system enough to do it, I asked and one of the experienced posters said to go back and read his thousands of posts and it's in there somewhere.

POST 6Original post

U can bypass the coolant lines by just connecting them together or capping them off at the block. I wouldnt just plug the hoses for risk if traping air in the system. The boxters do not even have the coolant lines on their aos. It wont hurt anything in the system if u r in a warmer climate.

I have never understood how things on a forum can get heated. Probably because people type and post immediately. If there was a required 15 min delay between typing and posting, this might not happen. If you have a disagreement on some issue just give some background on the basis of your knowledge. I'm more likely to believe someone who is a retired Porsche mechanic. I built a Factory Five Roadster and spend countless hours on that forum. Often someone would type a question like "what's the best engine" or ask about something that has been answered many time before. That would receive receive attacks of dumb question or do your research on the forum first. Haven't seen that here yet. My position always was that no one is making you read the post much less respond. I search first if I have a question. However, that doesn't always find everything. I've found the Google search works better than the forum search. Here's the link that gives the competing view points. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...re-s-idea.html

That's funny the way they were going at each other. Factory Five Roadster that is a Cobra replica? If I ever had the time I'd build a custom car.

Yes. Built over a few years. Sometimes worked on it all day/all night on a weekend. Sometimes sat for a month. Actually, once it was finished it was kind of a let down (not the car, but the fun of the build being over). Drove for a few years and sold. One reason sold was they are a bit scary. Rear end breaks lose very easily. Also no air, heat, stereo, top or wind shied wipers. Finally I hooked my second wife (way beyond my pay grade) when I had the car and didn't need it anymore.

Extremely cool machine. Used up all my extra lives on a Kawasaki GPZ and Robinson helicopter.

POST 11Original post

Just answered this question on another forum couple days ago..... Charles Brazeel Ilja Hermann the coolant chamber heater is no longer needed in the UAOS system, the modification I do to the stock AOS body eliminates the high velocity pressure drop in that area, so no freezing in cold temps ,the coolant connection is no longer necessary, you can use it or not, doesn"t matter. I have Trained/educated a lot of Technicians in my 45 years in the business, but I don't have the patience I use to, I'm "old and cranky" now !!!
