Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Most of what I could find was ignition-switch related so I'm posting 2003 996 C2, 30k miles. Turned key, as I did, heard an odd click from the ignition key area. Car started fine, ran fine, turned off fine. Accessories work fine, too. Keys turns as normal in ignition. Key won't come out. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Exactly what happened when my ignition switch went. NAPA $11 part to the rescue. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-ignition.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...on-switch.html

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DT, will give it a whirl and advise. My brain just thought: key stuck = something other than a simple switch. Fingers crossed.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, DT, were your tumblers OK at that point when the key stuck in?

POST 5Original post

Yup. I couldn't get the key out until I removed the ignition switch, then the key popped right out and everything has been fine ever since.

Definitely the ignition switch. Had the same thing happen to me at a DE last year. Ran to Napa and was in business for less than $15. Sent from my iPad using Rennlist

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

DTMiller and Slopeslider, thanks a million. Super cheap part, less than 25 mins all in. It's my Dad's (formerly mine) 911 and he's eternally grateful. Again, many thanks!

POST 10Original post

A quick spray of WD-40 has been suggested in this situation by one RL member.

POST 11Original post

I bought my first ignition swtich from NAPA like DT suggests and it didn't last very long before it broke again. It was a made in China part. Then I found one on amazon that was a german made part. replaced it and has been fine for over 2 years now.

POST 12Original post

I believe that the German sourced ignition switch is pre impregnated with WD40 - or so a RL member advises.....

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
