Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

there was no option to install timing tools, but being very acurate and making my own timing marks it was possible to replace the thing.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

just returned from a night testdrive (europe)
very happy, because tried to tackle a problem of random slow/hard cranking
it was also very hard to rotate the engine by hand even with the spark plugs removed, but that hard spot was in also quite random place, as I remember when repairing the engine the cams rotated freely without the compensators (tappets) so that was not to blame
there were also no related codes on the DME/ECU. when driving the car also acted a bit weird.
so thinking long and hard I came to conclusion that the only thing that could be to blame, is the camshaft/variocam tensioner
the funniest part is that I got a second hand tensioner off ebay for 30gbp. it arrived yesterday, I thought to try this out. with a bit of tackling with spanners on the lift I managed to replace it. also since it was on bank 2 (cylinders 4-6) no need to remove the engine.
there was no option to install timing tools, but being very acurate and making my own timing marks it was possible to replace the thing.
the end result, no more random slow starts, the car jumps to life much quicker, the second thing - it finally perfroms like it should it was kinda lumpy and lazy now it rews out really nice and I can finally feel some torque
the throttle response has also improved massively
the third thing - comsumption, of course no one speaks about this concerning porsche, but the OBC used to show 11.5L/100km (25mpg) while cruising at 100kph/60mph, NOW it does 8.5L/100 (33mpg) so 3L on 60 miles is another massive improvement
I felt it was strange, that with all the power and low weight it should be so thirsty
I don't know what was wrong with the tensioner, since while reassembling the engine it felt the same way as the other one. I did notice once that the chain comresses it fully before the inlet cam starts to rotate, that felt strange but since no testing parts were available I left it there,
my only assumption is that maybe it got clogged up with the debris from the spun bearing disaster and the solenoid could not make it work the way it should
but anyway I am very happy with the end result and spending 4 hours of my time to replace it
hope this helps someone.
this was the culprit
maybe will post a diy later
+1, that DIY is not for me for sure..., I was already super happy to be able to fix a small oil leak on one of my spark plug tube this weekend :-) Congrats on OP trouble-shooting skills and fix on that low-start issue. Cheers,
