Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just reading another board and I noticed a greasing tool. It made me think is there anything I should be greasing each year on the 996? I think the answer is no but thought I would ask. Coupe, not a cabrio.

POST 2Original post

Didnt know if this thread was NSFW based on the title.

POST 3Original post

Sure, all hinges, lids, door locks, Cabriolet hinges ect.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What do you suggest for door locks? Thanks.

POST 5Original post

DuPont Teflon door lock lube

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Your knowledge is endless. Your a true gentleman of the forums. Thank you.

POST 8Original post

The spoiler has hinges. Greased mine the other day. Yes. I have run out of real things to do.

POST 9Original post

Along these lines Doc, what do you suggest for cab mechanism lube?

Not what I was expecting. I was thinking a dry lube (Porsche inevitably wants something ridiculously obscure). Only thing I typically use WD40 for is cleaning. Thanks for the tip!

WOW !! That's the best compliment I think I have ever gotten, I appreciate it. This forum is a tough crowd usually, and a compliment like this is most humbling !!

Yeah...don't let it go to your head...

WD only lubricates for a short period of time... (until it evaporates- which isn't very long as it's volatile). While I don't have a cab, i'd think you're going to want something that stays where you want it and doesn't "drip" onto the roof material or worse yet into the cabin when the roof is up (even fairly heavy grease could get runny in summer heat). Maybe a "chain lube" type product? - just thinking out loud... Good luck

lol..I already know my worth, It's just good to see it recognized so I don't have to "toot my own horn" !!! WD-40 is my GO-TO light lubricant/surface protector for hinges, bare unprotected metal surfaces, or any tight places I want a light lubricate that penetrates, leaves a light lube, repels water and resists rust and corrosion. Heavier "greases" will not penetrate without high pressure and are generally messier. If I am concerned about dripping, I use a cloth to back up/catch and wipe off excess.

POST 18Original post

WD-40 attracts dirt. White lithium grease hardens over time. Try WURTH HKS, it’s a penetrating grease that is very high quality.
