He told me he hadn't been changing the oil for several years (he guessed about 40,000 miles) because it was "self changing."

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi all,
I purchased a sweet oil filter adaptor from LN Engineering for my 2003 996 Targa - I'm getting ready to install it, but LN did not provide any guidance on what screw-on filter to use with the adaptor. Does anyone have advice / a recommendation? Thanks all!
J.
Perfect thanks! Somehow missed the original LN web info but harder to get Napa parts here in Canada. The Mobil 1 107 is available right around the corner.

Well....ahhhhhhhh....I could see how it could be construed that way darn it! Let's see....I change my oil and filter every six months, and I use a brand spanking new Mobil 1 107 filter every time. And I've been doing that over a span of over 10 years. There ya go.
I repaired a car about two months ago.
One of the problems was a front seal leak.
It had been leaking so badly the owner had been adding 1 quart of oil per month until recently.
I told him I would be changing the oil and filter for him as part of the job.
He told me he hadn't been changing the oil for several years (he guessed about 40,000 miles) because it was "self changing."
But he also said that the filter hadn't been replaced in all that time.
I have the filter that came off.
But I haven't gotten around to see what a 40,000 mile filter looks like inside.
Tex, as the owner of a vintage British motorcycle, there is rarely a need to change oil. Top up the gas on each quart of oil add. If it stops leaking, it’s empty
Wow! That's something worth showing when you do open it. I had a Thunderbird like that in the late 70s, the oil pan leaked as much as it held. Pretty much every vehicle leaked copious amounts of oil (after the first 3000 miles or so) back then.
