Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to Rennlist and must say some of the technical support out here is excellent. I recently purchased a 2001 911 Conv. with 32K miles. Nothing appeared to be wrong with the car until I drove it a few days. Firsat was the battery was bad. Replaced it with the original Porsche battery. Everything appeared of other than the drivers side door. THe window tries to go up after closing then comes back down .5 inches or so. This leaves the door lights on hence eventually killing the battery. If I keep opening and closing the door on or about the 5th time the window goes up and seals. THEN, and OnLY THEN, I'm allowed to lock it and the lights on the door go out. From what I gather it may be the door switch causing this. So I guess I have a few questions and they may be connected. Is the window height adjustable without removing the door skin? Is the window sensing some restriction in the sealing that causes it to drop and leave the dome light on? OR Can all this be because of a sticky or failing door switch? All the rubber seems to be in great shape so I do not see any obstructions for the window rising and sealing. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Mark----

POST 2Original post

I read somewhere on this forum that the power windows have to be retaught for the one touch up/down feature to work and I wonder if it would help you. I had to do it after disconnecting my battery. Push the down button and hold it 10-15 secs after the window lowers completely and do the same for the up. Who knows... Ralph

POST 3Original post

Might be a window regulator issue. Do a search on "window regulator" in the 996 forum and see what you find...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One other thing. The lights commonly stay on while I drive it. When I do manage to cross my fingers when entering the car and the light goes out. I small bump in the road turns it back on. Everything points to the door switch either loose connection or failed......

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks RPORZIO. I tried the memory reset method you described. Never thought about the window regulator. I will definately check it out. I really love driving it and was wondering if there is a fuse I can pull that turns the lights off in the door preventing the obvious dead battery. I will go look at the regulator potential issues. May be fighting more than one problem here. Appreciate it guys.

POST 6Original post

I have been having a similar problem. Window would not go up all the way, interior door lights would stay on. I would open and close the door and eventually it would go up and the door lights would turn off. I discovered (today) that the outside handle was sticking out on the side facing the front of the car. When I pushed the handle edge in the window would close and seal on the weather stripping. There must be a switch in the outside door handle that is sensing you want to open the door from the outside that is not allowing the window to go up all the way to seal on the weather stripping. When you are in the car, try opening the window and reach out and make sure the door handle is pushed in al the way. I bet the window will close all the way and the door lights will turn off.

POST 7Original post

The switch that detects when the handle is lifted (and drops the window in anticipation of the door being opened) needs to be replaced. http://books.google.com/books?id=dyj...switch&f=false
