If I unplug the engine bay lightbulb, does that then also disconnect the engine bay fan?

Replacing the bulb with LED is a way to reduce your concern about battery drain.

This has been answered already but just for clarity the temp sensor for the fan is located between intake runners on passenger side, it will run regardless of lid position.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you unplug it at the light fixture end, no, you won't affect the power to the fan. The fan power is split from the light power not far from the end of the light connector. If you unplug the other end, within the passengers fender, both fan and light will be without power.
Thanks
I like to open the lid after a spirited or long drive to help disipate the heat some. Its hot enough here in Florida. Its a habit i got into with my 951. But that light will drain the batt. Is there anything else on that will drain batt from engine lid being open??
Wait. What?
13 years and I've never noticed there was supposed to be a light in the engine bay? I don't go in there often, but still
Where would I look for it to be?
Same here. Replaced both the frunk, engine bay light and license plate lights with LED bulbs. Less current draw and looks very cool. Car turns off the lights after ~1 hour.
LED bulbs are a cheap, quick and easy mod that everybody should do. I saw ECS Tuning's ad for the entire set of bulbs for cabin, frunk and engine bay for about 50 bucks, so I thought "What the heck" and ordered them. Wow, what a difference.
Also you do realize the fan can go on if your engine is hot after you turn off the car, right? I don't think the current draw of 1 small bulb for an hour is gonna matter too much.
Fan probably will not run if the temp stays down with the lid open. Where is the temp sensor?
That fan blows cooler air down past the plastic expansion tank.
Wonder what difference the effect of having the fan bringing the cooler air in past the tank displacing the trapped hot air out over the left side exhaust is vs hot air rising past the tank out through the open lid?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Living in AZ, I do raise the spoiler when parking in my hot garage when the temps are well over 100, but I think the engine would cool better just letting the fan run as intended. Not sure raising the spoiler helps much either.
Yes I realize this. It's a habit. The fan doesn't stay on forever and I'm bored so why not take an extra 4 seconds and pop the lid and let the heat out! These motors stay hot a long time!
I really don't understand this with modern synthetic oils and especially on a non-turbo car. But I guess whatever habits you have or works for you.
Just remember everytime you pop that hood, your shortening the life of your strut on your lid.
Wow. Right there and relatively obvious when you look for it. Kinda weak though so I can understand why I've missed it until now. Maybe I've never needed to go in there in the dark...
I had a look for it this afternoon and looked all after the sodding engine bay and couldn't find it. Now it is dark and I'm going to go and look for the bloody thing.
This has been answered already but just for clarity the temp sensor for the fan is located between intake runners on passenger side, it will run regardless of lid position.
The fan is meant to push air down when engine bay temperatures are high, the idea is to keep all the sensors/wiring harnesses/switches/hoses, etc. cool and not let the naturally rising heat to bake everything. The fan should also cool things down much faster than leaving the hood open. -As a side note, the spoiler should have rubber bellows under it and a rather small opening. I could see this being incrementally helpful but why bother, let it do it’s thing as intended...
The very first reply answered your question, then you told us about a behavior (leaving lid open after spirited drives) which started a discussion. I tried to help -along with some others- by sharing that this is not the way the factory intended the engine bay temperature was to be controlled. You may do with that info as you please.
Sorry AHMET THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP and pointing out an obvious downfall in my logic and thinking. Thread drifts my friend are what I was referring to, but you got me...big bazinga.

a few years ago for the same reason as others have mentioned -- low power drain in the event I leave the trunk or engine lid open.
The trunk one is the most important one. I can't tell you how many times I burnt my head peaking under there. Just the cooler running temps of the led is worth it in this area. With that said, I plan on retrofitting an LED strip as the bulb itself isn't really that useful for when you really need it.
