Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone, I have got another coolant leak. I thought maybe it was the expansion tank or cap (seem to be the most common) as the leak is on the drivers side and forward of the block (already did water pump, and this is nowhere near it) . But when I try to trace the leak it seems to be coming from a bolt on the variocam plus - driver's side top innermost bolt. This is the highest point I see wet anyway. I tried the hot test to see but couldnt really see if that is the source or not. There is no smoke and its only a small drip, usually dry on the floor but smells when she warms up, and the suspension is a bit wet. Today in hotter temps with the ac on it was a lot heavier than yesterday. At night without ac and cooler temps not a drop. Im hoping its dropping from a hose somewhere higher. I dont see anything on the forums or web about a leak in this area. Im going to pressure test tomorrow. Hoping its a quick and easy job. Fingers crossed. Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

get a pressure test done so you can locate/pinpoint/identify the cause/source of the leak.

+1 also you need a proper pressure tester (e.g., Stant) and pressure test it for at least 20min.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well guys, after doing the pressure test I found one of the male connectors at the AOS is cracked and spraying coolant when the engine is hot. Getting a quote for the repair through an indy. Seems to be around $1200-$1800 depending on shops from what I've seen on the web. Not sure its a job I want to do myself since everything makes it look like a real PITA to do. Any recommendations are welcomed!!

POST 5Original post

For $1800 I would do it myself, heck even if its 1/4 that price I would still do it... Buy a Harbour Freight motorcycle jack (or whatever they are called), lower the engine, change AOS.
