Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am carrying out the final product development for yet another new product. This final test is related to start cycles for the engine. I'd like to get an average of how many starts per week these cars see so we can finish the testing based upon these figures. So, how many times does your starter actuate per week? Fill out the poll. THANKS

POST 2Original post

Normally up-to 10 times a week as it's been used once a week mostly.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! I was crating the poll when you posted.. Cast your vote, please!

POST 4Original post

Total outlier, maybe 5 times a week, possibly less. Take the train to work.

POST 5Original post

Right in the middle for me...probably 5 per day on average. Maybe more on the weekends.

POST 10Original post

+1 Sometimes my car is driven every day. Some days I walk to work. Sometimes my car sits at the airport for a few days.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys... Keep them coming in!

POST 13Original post

16 to 20 or so. Daily Driver to work as 2nd of 2 family cars ... + happily throw in a few errands in the mix for this 2000 C2 ... a few Kms away from 140k kms.

POST 14Original post

I'm probably just over 30. To and from work = 10. Miscellaneous around town during the week = 5. Weekends probably ~8ish times both days.

POST 15Original post

About 15 to 25 times per week depending on errands and trips.

POST 16Original post

25-30/week, daily driver & any time I can come up with an excuse to drive somewhere.

POST 17Original post

More like 1-5 times per month. Same for the Corvette.

POST 18Original post

Long time lurker...daily driver. 25-35 starts a week.

+1 for both the 996 & 997

POST 20Original post

most weeks about 5-10 times , in the winter it depends on the road conditions so maybe 5-10 times /month

POST 21Original post

15 - 20 times per week for the 996, 0.01 times per week for the 951. Hope to get the 951 back on the road this year or next.

POST 22Original post

Probably 2 times in the summer and very rarely in the winter.

POST 23Original post

is this a product that aims to resolve the startup noise? Just had a creepy incident where for whatever reason just turned off the starter during cranking at the split second before it fired, with resulting creepy chain noise. Next start attempt wouldnt fire, third did it with a short metallic noise. Runs fine...but a little disconcerting. Likely related to chains not taught when oil pressure bleeds out? Mike

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, not a product for that issue. We solved that with modified tensioners and our solid tensioner product used in our Stage III engines. We just completed a 5,200 start cycle test on the product and will now do an invasive inspection to determine the condition of the components. The key switch, battery and starter are hurting, but all held up for all 5,200 start cycles without failing.

POST 26Original post

Cold start or warm start? I drive the car twice a week on average ... on one of those days I might start 6 times ; but 4 of those are probably within less than one hour since last shutdown, so engine still warm ... does it matter for your survey? Cold starts versus warm starts?

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We have completed both cold and warm starts in this cycling process. The warm starts are of greatest interest at the present in regard to this product development. I plan on carrying out the testing in a super cold environment in the coming winter and compare the UOA and wear results. We'll have at least 20 more cars upgraded by the time that winter gets around, so I'll have a much larger pool to sample from. Carrying out 5,000+ cold starts takes a lot longer than the 5,200 mixed cold and hot starts that we have just completed.
