Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Then I installed the halogen back in the turn signal socket.
Leading evidence: 'Install halogen back in the turn signal socket' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'earlier cars' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install halogen back in the turn signal socket' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While testing out to make sure everything was working one at a time, I tested the turn signal again, still with the led bulb in the turn signal socket.

Suspected cause
I would suspect the earlier cars to be less sensitive to light bulb changes to LED.

note that I also apparently broke a metal pin in the turn signal socket while changing bulbs.

Seemed to work fine except for the drl/brake light combo as the stock halogen bulb uses dual filaments in the bulb.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I want to do some custom lighting on the back of my 996 c4s. First step was to swap all the bulbs for led. Seemed to work fine except for the drl/brake light combo as the stock halogen bulb uses dual filaments in the bulb. I decided to swap the halogens back in one at a time. While testing out to make sure everything was working one at a time, I tested the turn signal again, still with the led bulb in the turn signal socket. First it was blinking rapid so I thought ok thats next. Then I installed the halogen back in the turn signal socket. Now my reverse light on that side was blinking??? Finally I switched the reverse light back to stock and now I have absolutely no turn signals at all when I pull the stalk signal right or left. Hazards work fine and lights flash when I lock and unlock. Ive tried three different relays off Amazon, one of which was for true halogens and not led and still nothing. Would love assistance!!
note that I also apparently broke a metal pin in the turn signal socket while changing bulbs. It was the one on the bottom of the socket that acts as a retaining spring and electrical connection. Theres no way I couldve fried all the wiring in the car with just that right?
You really should post the year of your car. I would suspect the earlier cars to be less sensitive to light bulb changes to LED.
Take this for what it is worth.
I have a 2003 with halogen headlights.
I added a HID H7 light to the low beams. I started to get spoiler deployment issues. Spoiler would deploy unpredictably, would make a horrible grinding sound sometimes.
I thought it was a spoiler issue!
I found some obscure post, don't remember where. That there can be problems installing an aftermarket led kit on a halogen car.
So i unplugged the HID's, all problems went way. I plugged the HID's back in, problems returned. I went back to halogen bulbs, never had a problem again.
So, I think your issue may be lack of load from the LED's. Honestly, just a guess. I put in a number of LED's on my car. I have since removed them all and will be sticking with the incadescent/halogen bulbs moving forward.
