When I set the hard top on both Cabriolet, I adjusted the bayonets to have a spacing of 10mm when fully locked, between the top and the car body around the back end, got those specs, from the manual.

I know it seems that the height can be slightly adjusted on the hardtop but before I do not damage than good, would like to seek similar experiences ;-)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning all, I will start with the usual, I hope that this is the right place. I have also searched and cannot find specific article on the topic. I have purchased a 996 hardtop ( bayonet style ), all good so as both car and hardtop are the same type. It fits nicely, no major issue. Only the click was less obvious when I was locking it in place with the Allen key on one side (it makes a noticeable click when you turn the key on the other side) But thought may be age was the cause. But I have noticed that it started to make cringing noise after few days. I had to dismantle it for a winter visit, being drain cleansing and other small repair. When I dismantled it, I noticed that the black cover was slightly worn out showing evidence that there was a rubbing When I looked at which part of the hard top was likely to rub, I think it is the part circled in red on the hardtop photo. I know it seems that the height can be slightly adjusted on the hardtop but before I do not damage than good, would like to seek similar experiences ;-) If you have any advice, I will be really On a side note, I was under the impression that once the softtop was opened, there was a smaller gap, any comment on this? interested.

POST 2Original post

When I set the hard top on both Cabriolet, I adjusted the bayonets to have a spacing of 10mm when fully locked, between the top and the car body around the back end, got those specs, from the manual. I suspect your not getting the bayonets full lock on the side you don't hear the click.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, but don't you think that it would get it even worse if I bring it even tighter? I realise sometime counter intuition is the way to go. I am aware that may be as it was not fully locked on one side, it might have created move hence the rubbing on both sides. But I found it weird to have the same wear on each side. I guess my question is , should it be touching there and I should be measuring the 10mm to see as I may have less than 10 mm after all. Just that it is not super easy to bring the top back to the car, measure then remove, adjust etc...

POST 4Original post

There is a TSB that will have instructions for alignment and adjustments. Let me see if I can find it for you.

Hi there! Hopefully, these will help you out! Mike

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much. I love the details about the type of noise: rattling, clicking, grating, crackling or creaking noises. That will definitely enrich my ability to describe noises in the future ;-) Where did you found those gems? I have an idea...

POST 9Original post

Issues aside, props on the Natural Brown interior with the Sport seats. Lovely!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I indeed love the Natural Leather option, now each time I am looking at the next one in line, a black interior kind of kill the deal. I would be looking at a 996 Turbo Convertible, which might not be the brightest choice First as it does not help the chassis rigidity and also as I am living living in Montreal Quebec (we got our first snow fall yesterday) and I drive in winter.
