Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

AWD means I could have more fun to safely, in the wet, make use of the huge power.
Leading evidence: 'Use of the huge power' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use of the huge power' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am just curious, I see certain 997 models indicating a "Mezger" flat six. Is the 3.6L engine in 2005 mk2 C4Ss (my car) not considered a Mezger? What are the differences with those engines?
No it's not a mezger. Its a completely different engine with more parts, removable liners, dry sump system. Its more expensive hence you have to buy a GT3 or turbo to get one.
OP - The Mezger is the dry sump, GT-1 derived block, 959 derived heads (with oil galleries that lube the IMS) found on the turbos and GT cars. The Mezger have very different performance profiles for the rotating components like cams and crank. The 996 Mezger engines are M96/76 for the .1 and M96/79 for the .2. The turbo motor has lower compression ration, K16/24 turbos, smaller valves and non-titanium rods.
The 911 Mezger designs have significantly better oiling performance than our M96.03.
Hans Mezger is a motorsport legend. His design of the 917 V-12 is considered one of the pivotal achievements in racing history.
Thanks for the detailed responses! Clears that up for me. I was mistakenly thinking that the C4S NA motor in mine was the same just without the Turbos.
God I would love to drop one of these in my C4S one day. I know it will probably cost more than the car itself but I can't get the idea of an "AWD wide body Mezger powered 911" out of my head. A GT3-4S (trademark pending
)
Probably right on cost more than the C4S cost!
So I guess the '05 C4S I bought only shares the wide body work and do I understand correctly, the sport suspension, brakes, 18" turbo wheels with the Turbo model?
You are correct about everything except the wheels. Not sure about the 997 model but the 996 C4S I have only has the Turbo twist "look" wheel. The difference being the Turbo wheels were hollow spoke and lighter than the ones I have.
OK, but why on earth would you want that? For a couple bucks (well, a couple thousand bucks) you can have 650WHP/600WTQ with fabulously linear power delivery.
Gotta go with theprf.
The AWD and holy f***! grunt, matched with the ride comfort, make the turbo the 365 day choice. Absolutely, the GT cars are thrilling to a fault. Turbo has more tweak available with tuning, which is a fine bang-for-buck consideration. AWD means I could have more fun to safely, in the wet, make use of the huge power.
The availability of a potent, yet reliable, non-dry sump NA option to power our cars is so limited and costly. $30,000+ later youd have a car that is in the same cost range as a Mezger equipped car.
Ha! Screw practical. We own Porsches. Do what ever makes you love your car more and make the loud pedal louder.
Immediate throttle response? Doing things besides 120mph pulls on the freeway?
Also the idea of slapping a proper NA Mezger in a AWD car sounds awful. I hope nobody ever does that.
Ill stick with my 8k rpm redline....cant get that with a turbo mezger.
I have also seen the dyno curves in a turbo...it takes a lot of work to get them linear.
IDK... after blasting thru a canyon run, then getting out on open road for "120mph pulls" is boat loads of fun to me, but even more fun is those 150mph pulls on a well tuned turbo...Makes me smile every time, even just thinking about it.
