Suggestion
I'm guessing it might be due to the large shock underneath the seat that raises the sport seat vs the supple seats being adjusted by motors.

Suggestion
There is a way to move the seat forward and backwrd and it changes the height considerably.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the Supple leather package in my 996. I feel like I sit rrather high in the driving position. How do the sport seat compare? Do the sport seats sit lower in the car?
Chad
My Sports seats have two height options. There is a way to move the seat forward and backwrd and it changes the height considerably. I am 5'9" and in the "high" setting my head almost touches the headliner. In the "low" position there is 2-3" of clearance. BIG difference!
Hmmm. Porsches are usually known for being fairly comfortable for tall guys. However, 6'7" is definately TALL! If I slide my seat all the way back in the low position I feel like the steering wheel, foot pedals, and shifter might as well be on the hood!
However, it's hard for me to imagine being 10" taller so I guess I'm not being very much help. Sorry!
I also have the 6'7" thing going on.
After looking a several cars I'm the proud owner of a 2001 996 that I brought home yesterday. There was a big difference in the seat height and travel in the 2000 and 2001 models I looked at.
The one I bought has suppple leather seats and the height is acceptabel but I still need about an inch of leg travel to be comfortable. I plan on removing the seat and investigating the seat tracks.

Rich,
Don't for get about the GT3 lower center console delete. I just did this. AMAZING amount of room left over. The best thing I have done so far.

Did we ever get an answer on the original question about the sport seats? I am ready to purchase a set of 996 sport seats to convert from my supple leather seats as I feel like the driving position is too high. I know the 997 sport seats sit lower but was hoping to stay chassis correct. Any help would be great. For the record I'm 6'2" and have plenty of leg and head room with my seat all the way lowered but I prefer a lower driving position and would like more lateral support.
I also think the driving position is too high in the 996, but my standard supple leather seats are in the lowest position.
I think there is no trick to get the seats lower right?
For the taller guys, there is an option to move the seats further back (with longer or repositioned seat-rail). That can also help for the legroom.
I've had two sets of sport seats. The latest set replaced the supple leather seats in my 996. The sport seats sit higher than the regular sets. I'm guessing it might be due to the large shock underneath the seat that raises the sport seat vs the supple seats being adjusted by motors. Even though I like to have the seat in the lowest position, it's not a huge difference for me but I'm only 5'8".
Targa's have lower seat foams in the seat bottoms. You can change out the bottom seat foam for the Targa foam, it's not that expensive. Your car probably needs new seat foams anyway. The same seat foam fits all 996 seats, sport, smooth leather, supple leather.
