Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, This isn't my first post but I've managed to forget my login details and it's been a while so I've started again! Has anyone cut open a 996 NA muffler? I'm looking to use them on a project and want to modify them but I can't find any photos from anyone who has cut one open. I've found 993, Boxster, Cayman, 996 Turbo etc... everything but the 996 NA. Anyone? Thanks in advance. Mike

POST 3Original post

Go to the fabspeed website. They have a video there (sorry, I can't remember exactly where) in which they show a cut open 996/997 muffler and compare it to one of their mufflers.

POST 4Original post

Not much. A few baffels. Darin at FisterD could tell you. He will also cut them open and fix loose baffles IIRC.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmmm, for what I have in mind, I need one good photo with part of the outer skin removed. Still hunting... MG

POST 6Original post

Find my thread regarding muffler noise and someone posted a link there which will take you to another thread whoich has a picture. I opened one up to fix a loose post/pillar.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Topaz, managed to find it but the links are dead to the photos... Mike

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I've found some glimpses of sections of 996 muffler but still no conclusive evidence. For those who have seen inside one, is this correct? Mike

POST 9Original post

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok... just adding them into this thread. Thanks this helps. Hmmm, I haven't quite got it right. Is the long tube perforated? Mike

POST 13Original post

Here's another view, although this is from a 997 muffler. My understanding is that the internal construction is virtually identical to the 996 muffler.

POST 14Original post

Not my pictures but got them from here or somewhere else on the web. First is a picture from a german automotive journal on the 996

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
