Look up seat extenders....I had one installed years ago that added almost 4" of rear travel, I'm 6'5"

Without that, my right knee was in the steering wheel, and my right hand ran into my knee whenever turning right.

Suspected cause
I find more the issue is the width of the seat in the shoulder area, with legroom, i had the seta moved back and the brackets lowered so could fit in the 993 coupe.

Suggestion
I experimented a bit with smaller shoes and found a pair of stretchy size 12 Adidas running shoes that i could cram my feet into that also have a fairly thin sole.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im 60 and have no trouble in my 99 cab. The problem begins when I wear a helmet; my helmet just barely touches the top.
BTW, the 99-01 cars are in the 996 forum. The 911 forum is for air-cooled models.
Im 6 and I have no issue fitting inside my 77S. You might find the steering wheel too far away but an aftermarket wheel and hub can bring it comfortably closer. These cars are surprisingly roomy- my 67 brother in law easily and comfortably fits in the passenger seat.
I'm 6'6", 36" inseam.
However, for the 996, I fit fine, and I think you'll have no problem. You'll have 4" to spare! Getting the seat into the one position where my head wasn't too close to the roof was a bit tricky. Seat position actually isn't all the way back. Too far back and the roof slopes down, so you lose headroom. But overall, I found a good position, and don't really notice any issues. I'm not sure I will ever be able to qualify for a track day wearing a helmet, as I"m probably too close to the roof, but I haven't tried.
You might have to do the GT3 console delete. Without that, my right knee was in the steering wheel, and my right hand ran into my knee whenever turning right. It was a pain. But with the lower console removed, there is a ton more room for my right leg, and I haven't given it another though.
As the others have said, you should have no problem. I’m over 6’and fit fine. Thought I remembered reading a while back that one of the top execs at Porsche was 6’6” and was adamant that he and his likewise situated well above average height brethren be able to fit in any car that they made. Urban legend, maybe, but my Porsche’s are the only manual transmission cars that I’ve ever driven that I can’t get the clutch pedal fully depressed if the seat is all the way back.
Depends on your proportions. Im 6-4 with long torso. I can get in, but fit in is subjective. I have ultimately mounted my seats To the floor in both an 85 911 and now my 996 Targa. without doing so a helmet was a no go and view through windshield was compromised. The targa bought me more headroom than a sunroof coupe with standard seats/mounting. I also removed windshield mounted rear view mirror as it obscured views on right hand corners.
you can see here that I gained about 2 with driver side floor mount compared to passenger slider mount. You could also take some foam/cushion out of standard seat bottoms too.
I am just over 6'2" with long legs and have no problem fitting in my 996. Now getting out of the car is a little harder than getting in, but I have no head clearance issues and legroom is good. I can't say the same for Caymans, C-4 Vettes, 2000s Mustangs, 90s - early 2000s Camaros, Miatas.
My wife and daughter are both 5'2" and they can fit in passenger seat and rear passenger seat without much issue. I'm 6'2" 240 and slide in driver's side with ease.
I am 6'5" with 34' inseam, 36" waist and 230 lbs, I have had a G series, 996 Targa, 993 S, 991 S, 997 S and I have been extremely uncomfortable in all of them (although I am obviously hooked on the brand), I swapped out the seats in the G series and the 993 for Recaro's, they were somewhat better but not perfect, sold the 991 as just couldnt get comfortable and didn't want to swap out the seats, currently have the 997 with the hard back sports seats and find them uncomfortable after 20 minutes in the car, main area is the shoulders, as I reach forward for the steering wheel, my shoulder blades dig into the bolsters, currently researching alternative seats (which lead me to this thread), the largest seats I can find are Corbeau, but they don't seem to have a good reputation, I have a set of Recaro experts in L, but still not quite right, does anyone have any recommendations for seats to fit a street car? (no racing or helmet required)
6'2 as well. I fit fine, but if you're planning to track your helmet will be touching the roof quite a bit limiting your head movement. The lack of tilt in the steering wheel is also a bit annoying if you have long legs. I'm looking ultimately at a bucket with sliders at a lower seating position. There is also a guy here that sells steering wheel extensions to bring the wheel a little closer to you if you need it.
Targa owner.
6'5" 205lbs with 37" inseam. Could definitely use an extra inch or two of legroom. I did the GT3 Console delete as long drives were unbearable. Headroom fine.
+1
I'm closer to 6'4" and I find the 996s headroom and legroom adequate on the road but, for me at least, wearing a helmet is difficult. My helmet hits the roof (especially the leather trim at the a-pillar) so I find myself slouching and aggravating my neck when tracking or AXing in a 996.
I wonder how long this thread will live, given that it was started by a first time user, with only this one and only post, and they haven't been active on Rennlist since that first post?
Ever been to Germany where these cars are designed and built? I have and you have no worries about being too tall. I might be worried about being too bigly, but mot too tall.
6.4 here, , 4th 911, 85turbo coupe, 89targa, 01cab and 04cab. I do not fit in a coupe, head hits. Leg room not an issue. Getting in and out is always an exercise. All depends if your length is up top or below.
I find more the issue is the width of the seat in the shoulder area, with legroom, i had the seta moved back and the brackets lowered so could fit in the 993 coupe.
One thing people dont mention often when asking if they will fit in a 911 is the foot space. My feet are mens size 13, and if I wear a shoe with a bigger sole or heel (like a running shoe), I find that my toes bump the heater duct above the accelerator. I have to wear a very thin soled shoe to avoid any toe interference from above.
This is a good point. The older air-cooled cars have far less room in the pedal box than the 996. I had an '84 3.2 Carrera (Targa) that was sometimes a nightmare with my big feet.
I typically wear a size 13-14 sneaker and I can drive the 996 (not the 3.2 Carrera) with these sneakers, although they tend to get in the way some with spirited driving. I experimented a bit with smaller shoes and found a pair of stretchy size 12 Adidas running shoes that i could cram my feet into that also have a fairly thin sole. They are great for driving the 996 (they also worked pretty well for the 3.2 Carrera).
With the 997, I am ok with shoe/foot clearance with normal shoes, the seat also goes back far enough, my issue is with the width of the seat at the shoulder level, it's just not wide enough, the Recaro's are pretty much the same, Corbeau make the A4 seat in a wide fitting, but going on the dims on their website, it wont fit in the 997....so I am looking for a seat with normal bum width, but a higher back and wider shoulder area - any suggestions??

I'd love to know the models/part-numbers for the seat and mounting, and what needed to be done to get it done correctly. My independent (who also modifies Porsches of all eras) says that it's not really feasible without cutting out the floor and rebuilding it specifically for the application. Maybe he only meant it for my electric "comfort" type seats?
6' 2" @ a walking around clothed and armed 275 lbs.
I fit NO Problem in my old 996, 997, and 991 just fine!
Porsche's are known for having plenty of room for us.
This is great news, Im 203cm/6.66ft tall, almost 50/50 a bit longer legs.
Im looking at 996s and tried setting in a C4S with sunroof = no legroom and no chance for a helmet, then a 996.1 C2 aut. no sunroof = no legroom and a bit better headroom but only 3 fingers wide.
My aim is a 996.2 C2 manual Coupe with no sunroof.
And I would have to fit in it to safely drive on track days = not hetting my legs on the wheel and room to have a helmet onits kids charity runs so safety is even more important.
My plan is to add a bucket seat, on custom mounts, to get it all the way down to the floor, and then a steering wheel Momo adaptor and a smaller racing wheelbecause the steering wheel is setting to low, it would be crasy nice to have tilt function
Any other ideas?
And no, I cant buy a 991, lots of room with a racing seat.
Best regards
Michael
It was briefly mentioned in this thread, but there are other threads with more detail and pictures; look into the GT3 console delete modification. It makes a huge difference in the feeling of leg room.

If you can avoid seats with tubular frames,, they are not a good thing in a hard incident..
A Aluminum/Fiberglas/CF bathtub seat are the most protective. Also depending on the number of events you do a year,
with proper mounting planning you can switch the driver seat out in just a few minutes..
