Just to clarify, the car is definitely going to remain a manualIm only wondering what, if anything, would be needed to use an engine that was originally installed in a Tiptronic car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I picked up a 1999 Carrera roller (no engine or transmission) that was originally a manual car. Ive got a line on a drop-in engine but its from a Tiptronic car and Im wondering if it is a viable choice? Id assume at least the engine wiring harness would need to be swapped to that of a manual car but perhaps not? Any insights/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ian

POST 2Original post

Im not an expert, but I believe the motor is the same between drivetrains. There are minor differences from 99 - and later 3.4 motors, but they can be swapped.

POST 3Original post

Physical motor is the same but i would use the entire harness from the origjnal car. All the sensors should be the same but double check the vac lines not sure if the tip has an extra one?

POST 4Original post

There are ramifications for cooling the Tipt gearbox. You need to look at some diagrams to see what additional coolant lines are needed and where. If it were I, I would find a 6 speed gearbox to go along with that engine.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone for the responses! Just to clarify, the car is definitely going to remain a manualIm only wondering what, if anything, would be needed to use an engine that was originally installed in a Tiptronic car. The entire drivetrain is missing so I can pick and choose parts as needed, but Im trying to formulate a game plan before I start spending money. Thanks again for the help, Ian
