Yep it looks like you can go to 3.6 from a 3.2 Boxster core or you could use a 2.7 to go up to 2.9.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More specifically, if I were looking for a core to build as a race motor for my 99, could I get an engine from a boxter and bore it and sleeve it to 3.6l? found a guy selling one for cheap and it got my wheels turning for a winter rebuild project. Apologies if its been asked before, couldnt find an answer through searching.

You will need to drill and tap some holes on the Boxster engine to fit the 996 chassis, too.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
