Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My indy re-assembled the mechanism in such a way that got the thing started then used the allen wrench to complete the closing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I think it's gone. Please advise. It is stuck in the tiled position. I usually leave it on tilt for the internal heat of the day. When I went to close, it just makes a grinding noise. Any ideas? Any references?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Drove to my indy in Newport Beach and he got the system closed. First, he got access to the "driving mechanism" ( P/N 996 624 211 02) which is a unit that apparently consists of an electric motor and the gear system that makes the thing work. He couldn't get it to close so he took the gear mechanism apart. 2 nylon gears and an small aluminum gear thing. The two nylon gears had a number of teeth missing. If you roof rack motor fails, there is a allen wrench that is provided for emergency purposes to get the roof closed. The problem was that the gears were broken. My indy re-assembled the mechanism in such a way that got the thing started then used the allen wrench to complete the closing. He is ordering the mechanism (complete) and a new switch (which I broke before). I had to argue with my him to take money for his time but he refused. I will have to arrange something special from USAF up here at Edwards. Maybe I can get him a ride in an F-22 or something. - Fast

It's a blessing to have an indy that doesn't want to take your money. A BLESSING!
