Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I went ahead and installed these dampeners on each side and put everything back together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just did my rear brakes on my 99 996 and of course something came up that I was not expecting. I removed pads and rotor from drivers side and reassembled with new equipment (factory pads, Brembo rotors). I went to do the same to the other side to find the pads had a couple of dampeners attached to them. Not all 4, but 2. I took a trip to the closest dealer only to find they had one size of the dampeners (30 mm) and not the 28 mm for the bottom pistons on caliper.. I went ahead and installed these dampeners on each side and put everything back together. It's my understanding that these dampeners are designed to reduce vibration and/or squeaking. Having said that, I am wondering if only installing the 30 mm dampeners on the top pistons is going to make the pad wear different?

POST 2Original post

Did one side have no damping plates? I would have the correct plates or no plates on both sides. The 28mm is available. Part # 99635208602

passenger side had a 30 and a 28. One of each. Drivers side had none. And now I have 2 30mm on drivers and 2 30 mm on passenger. Thats all that was available and I had to put the car back together.
