Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I'm currently in need of a transmission rebuild for my 99 C2 6speed, and struggling to find the parts required to rebuild it here in Oz. There is a manual transmission out of a 02 Boxter S that has become avaialble to me locally, but not sure if it would fit, can anyone confirm please? cheers.

POST 2Original post

I think that you would have 6 reverse gears and 1 forward with Boxter transmission.?? Edit: Boxter transmission is mirror image of the 996 transmission. So like I thought, it can't be used.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers mate, Ive been doing a bit more digging around and searching on this site and others. It seems the main source of my indy's frustration is trying to locate a replacement pinion shaft for my box, with out having to go to the lengths of buying an entire transmission for the part. I see places like Vertex and Californian Motorsports over in the states list reconditioned transmissions on their sites and even the pinion shaft and rings as seperate items, so I might approach them for some further info.

Pinion shaft bearing or just the pinion shaft?

I would avoid Vertex based on forum feedback. CA motorsports may be the best or GBox in Colorado. I think GBox has the best website. Both are very helpful on the phone!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for your replies guys, its the pinion shaft I beleive we're chasing. Californian Motorsports have replied to me in regards to availability of these sets and were very helpfull.

I strongly suggest avoiding Vertex. I had my 03 C2 motor rebuilt there and it lasted 1300 miles. If you saw their "shop", with engine and tranny parts on the floor in piles, dirt, grease and pigeon guano everywhere the parts aren't piled up, you would run away. I should have but didn't and i paid dearly for that mistake. Good luck finding the parts you need for Indy to do the job.

POST 8Original post

screw the rebuild... buy a new transmission... there not that expensive... pm me if you need one.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the heads up 996c2, its definately a concern for me being so far away an all... Tbred911 - I guess it depends on an individuals definition of what expensive is... PM is on its way. Thx
