This is not a probability of success.

That is so loud it’s interesting the engine would even run, if it’s rod knock, there is likely a fair amount of metal in the sump.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, everyone. I am hoping you guys can help me diagnose this sound. The linked video features a 2002 Carrera that makes a ticking/knocking sound from startup when the engine is running, and I am trying to figure out what it is. Any suggestions on what the sound could be indicative of and what actions should be taken to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Video: You Tube

POST 2Original post

Sounds serious !!!! Has the rhythm of a rod knock, pull the oil filter and lock for metal debris, And give us the "backstory" should be interesting.....

Yeah, this sounds like a noise you really don't want to hear. Be curious to find out what is going on as well.

Wow.. that's the worst video of "ticking" that I've heard since being on RL. It almost sounds like the ticking is external like two parts tapping against each other.

This ☝️ And Im not an expert but this sounds really bad. Sorry

POST 7Original post

That is so loud it’s interesting the engine would even run, if it’s rod knock, there is likely a fair amount of metal in the sump. I would take a look around the belt and pulleys and make sure you don’t have an interference or a pulley about to fall off. Any work done in the clutch/flywheel area recently ?

POST 8Original post

That sound is not a good sign. I would honestly not start it anymore just in case of total engine failure. Best of luck. Take it to a trusted mechanic.

POST 9Original post

wow.....that definitely is not good....please update us with diagnosis....

POST 10Original post

Agree with Alex above DON'T start that again until you find and fix the cause of the noise.

POST 11Original post

Could it be the accessory drive belt? A bit of rubber slapping something as it goes around?
