Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Acquired my first 996 after a long search. So, chasing down some of the easier issues. Or what I thought were easy! In op reverse lights. 1999 6mt coupe. Replaced switch at tranny, fuse, and cleaned "jumpers" at relay location no 2 in back of car. Bulbs are good. So my request is for a diagram of the complete circuit. Hopefully this weekend I can begin tracing it down with the wiring diagram. Thanks in advance for any assistance! Godspeed! Dave

POST 2Original post

Search this or the next page. I spelled it out on one of the threads. I would suggest u but a Bentley manuel for the diagrams and helpfull maintanence tips. They r not that expensive and are a good regference. next page. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1237557-2002-backup-lights-not-working.html

POST 3Original post

Just remember when troubleshooting it goes something like this - 12v comes from the fuse and goes to the transmission switch. So the switch has constant 12V. 12V supply and ground wires run to the backup lights, but continuity to ground is not there. When you put the car in reverse, it moves the switch plunger to provide a path to ground through the switch for the whole circuit.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excellent. Thank you both. I was not aware the Bentley manual provided wiring diagrams. Godspeed! Dave

POST 5Original post

also, a multimeter helps to go along with the wiring diagrams. Could be a pinched /grounded wire.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
