It's an extremely helpful tool if you want to know what's going on with your car without having to go to the dealership to find out. It will help you to make a decision if the issue is catastrophic and therefore turn it off, if it's a minor issue that you can drive home and make an appointment at your shop to get it addressed. Can't answer your question on tiptronic since I have a stick, but I will say that there hasn't been a code that I couldn't reset to date. Best bet is to go to the website and then give them a call. In my opinion, this is a critically important tool that every 996 owner should have. The same can be said for everyone that is serious about buying a 996. They should have this on their laptop and take it with them as they look at each car. It will answer a lot of questions before they decide to pay for a PPI.
