Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Check battery first' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check battery first' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Stopped home at lunch to ge teh 996 and drive it a bit. Its been over a week since I drove it.
Would not start at first. Cranks but would not fire. After a few attempts it started. But now there is a noise from the engine. It is a tapping but doe not seem to be "mechanical". All gauges normal, no CEL.
Stopped the car and went back to work. Will try again later.
Just venting while I debate the next step.
Got a voltmeter?
Check the battery first.
It shouldn't have turned over if it didn't have enough juice, but stranger things have happened.
I parked mine for 2 weeks without a trickle charger and it wouldn't crank the next time. There is a pretty good amount of draw on these cars, even when they are stationary/parked.
The noise could be a lifter. Mine did it once after sitting for a while. Scared the crap out of me but it didn't get worse and went away relatively quickly. Hasn't done it since.
Wasn't the lifter noise. When I parked it, it had been sitting on the rain/sleet for a few days outside the garage. Before I went out of town I pulled it into the garage. When I open the trunk water poured out of it. I think the engine was flooded (literally).
So when I got home I said screw it and drove it. Brakes were rusted. Sound went away and car drives perfectly. Brakes still grinding but getting better.
Lesson learned - drive the car every day.
Water poured out of the trunk when you opened it? I don't understand how that can happen by opening the engine cover.
Anyway, glad to see that it doesn't seem to be something terminal.
Just continuing my own thread. Had another experience today. So took the hard top off last month and the passenger side flap would not move. It was slow last year. I lubed it last year but still did not work well.
So put the hard top back on and did research. Figured the motor was bad so I bought a used motor and flap for $60, studied how to fix it. Well took the hard top off, tired to raise the soft top and the flap did not budge. So i rotated it with the allen key. Figured what then hell and lubed it again. And guess what. Works perfectly.
So now I have an extra side flap and motor and $60 less.
