Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I got some 7mm spacers, and that did the trick.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, it is spring, and time to take the Blizzak's off the C4S for the summer. Didn't want to put the almost-worn-out Bridgestone Pole Positions back on, so I bit the bullet and ordered a tire/wheel package from Tire Rack. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on OZ Alleggerita wheels. Glad I'm typing it, since I can't pronounce it. Since it is a C4S, it uses the wider rear tires (295's) and wheels. Fronts are 225's. The new wheels came with tags attached to them with their manufacture date and their weight. I decided to weigh my 3 sets of wheels/tires. Stock Turbo Twists (18") with Bridgestone Pole Positions (almost to wear bars): Front: 50.3 lbs each, Rear: 60.4 lbs each. Chromed 993 Turbo Twists with Blizzak's (265's on rear): Front: 46.8 lbs each, Rear: 56 lbs each. OZ wheels with Michelin PS2's: Front: 39.6 lbs, Rear: 46.7 lbs each. The new fronts are 10.7 lbs lighter than the stockers each, and the new rears are 13.7 lbs lighter each. That is a total reduction of 48.8 lbs! That's a lot of rotating inertia to lose! Check out this article for the effect of this. https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...-wheels-tires/ Also, when they arrived at my house (mounted and balanced), I put them on to find that the wheels would not clear the heads of the bolts attaching the 17mm rear spacers that the C4S's use. Called Tire Rack and they said that the spacers are not to be used. I did measure the back spacing, and the new wheels were slightly more off-set to the outside, but not 17mm. I put them on the car with no spacer, and they didn't look right, not pushed out to the edge of the fender to look good. I got some 7mm spacers, and that did the trick. Tire Rack missed the ball on this one. OZ could have easily made a pocket on the back of the wheels between the lug nut holes like the stock wheels have. Any way, I am pleased with them and love the updated look. I know physics say the car is slightly quicker now, but I know that my seat-of-the-pants improvement feeling is likely mostly in my head.

POST 2Original post

Looks good, wheels are a great place to drop some weight.

POST 3Original post

The weight difference between various wheels can be surprising. When I obtained some 18" Carrera II wheels, I was amazed by how much lighter they were than the 17" Turbo twists. Better looks and lighter weight is a great combination!

POST 4Original post

OZ wheels are great I have had a few sets just watch for cracks on the spokes.

I have 18" Turbo Twist Hollow Spokes on my '99C2. I'm curios now to check their weight. I've read somewhere they are 30% lighter than solid spokes.

Yep. My C4s came with 19 NB replicas of the Carrera Classics, no bueno IMO. So I started shopping and found that many aftermarket wheels were the same or less weight at each corner... even over the oem hollow spoke. This site has the info youre looking for and yes the NB hollow spokes are roughly 5lbs lighter per corner which translates to about what youve heard.
