I just installed the Amber side markers and tails.

I did the amberectomy with a soldering iron, and replaced the bulbs with amber-colored.

Lots of us changed those out to European clear markers.

I'm pretty sure they were done as a running change during the '99 model year.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 99 C4 coupe (5/99 build) has the clear style headlights, tail lights and side marker lights. Ive searched through old pictures and I see 98s with the amber lights. I always thought that the 99s came with amber lights also. In searching old pictures of 99s from Motortrend and other magazines I see 99s with the clear lights in the articles. Did 99s come with amber lights or was there a manufacturing date in which Porsche made the switch to clear in the US? I like the ambers and if they would have been original to the car I would like to bring them back. Thank you all in advance for the knowledge.
Mine are the halogen lights and the corner trim pieces could stand to be replaced. I think that the Ocean Blue Metallic looks so good with the amber lights. It really defines the line between the hood and the bumper. I will have to figure out if they were stock or if they were changed out. I kind of want it to be as it was delivered. Sorry the picture of the ambers is so bad, I snagged it off the inter-webs. .
if you don't mind the wait, Amazon has the headlight trim pieces for around $70/pair. I ordered several sets and it took about 2-3 weeks to receive, but considerably cheaper than dealer pricing.
I've seen a few '99s with all kinds of combinations. Some were form the US and others were Canadian spec cars but all of them had amber side markers that are in the side of the fenders.
I'm pretty sure they were done as a running change during the '99 model year. My '99 has a 5/99 production date and came with clear. Looks much better on a black car vs orange.
As others have said, all of the US side markers were amber. Lots of us changed those out to European clear markers. Prolly one one the first mods I did.
My 2/99 C2 has clear everything including side markers.
It's possible the original owner changed them but he was incredibly **** about saving every single receipt so it's odd I don't have the paperwork for it.
The PO saved the original window sticker and dealer paperwork and he even saved magazine covers from the era. Who knows?
I think I have landed on the idea that my 5/99 build was late and most likely came with clear headlights and tail lights. I definitely have the early build envy with the amber lights.
^^ Ha! Touche' !!!! Uh,... yeah, NO!
I love it just the way it is - especially with the Ocean Blue Metallic paint - I think clear looks just about right (side marker lights too).
My '99 had the lower portion in amber. I did the amberectomy with a soldering iron, and replaced the bulbs with amber-colored.

Do you mean you have the full headlight housing or just the corner reflectors? I might be interested in a set of headlight housings that I could de-amber.
I have Nov build 99 with clear front and back but amber markers...
If anyone wants to trade with their ambers I'd but up for it. My lenses are pristine, in the Los angeles area
Has anyone tried to do an Amber colored film to apply to recreate the eggies? Im debating on giving it a shot with film as I dont wanna spend over $1k to find a full set of amber head/tail lights. Does anyone think thats a good idea?
i know this is years old already, but do you still have some amber headlights? My 7/98 build came with ambers then one of the POs switched to clears. I just installed the Amber side markers and tails. Now all I need is the ambers, preferably with the jet washers if possible. If not its fine.
Trying to revive this thread, anyone have ambers for sale? Or looking to trade to clears? I looked up my 7/98 build VIN in PET2 it showed my car originally came with the ambers. I just need the headlights to complete the Amber look.
