Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had a strange coolant leak yesterday. I had a flat rear tire but since the tire was damaged anyway I decided to drive back home carefully. I drove about 3 km (2 miles) at a speed of 20 Km/h (15 miles/h) in first gear inside the city. The temperature was about 25 degrees Celsius (77 F). Right when I came home I saw a lot of coolant running out under the car. I first thought that the punctured tire had something to do with it, but I cannot find any leaks under the car and it seems like it is coming from the expansion tank. I don't remember seeing any lights going off in the instrument cluster only the low coolant fluid warning after the coolant coming out on the floor. I am thinking, could it be some over heating issue that made the coolant overflow? Any experiences? /Robert

POST 2Original post

You really should post year of car.... Regardless, unless the system was overfilled, causing coolant coming through pressure release valve or bad coolant cap, coolant tank is likely cracked. Last year, on a really hot day, we stopped at the Brickworks and I came out to find a pool of coolant under car. Drove home about 45 minutes, didn't lose a drop. I replaced coolant tank on my 996.2. Tank crack required 20 psi from air compressor to see crack.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oops. Yes my car is a 996 c2 2002, i.e. a 996.2. I have read about the coolant tank issue before. That sounds plausible. The strange thing is that I have never had any issues before and now when I got a flat tire I get these symptoms. But maybe just a weird coincidence.

POST 4Original post

It was probably mildly cracks and tilt brought liquid up to the crack. Youve probably had a mild steam leak for a while... It could also be the bleeder valve if the car was tilted due to the flat + road surface angle..
