With this symptom, are there other components I should be inspecting/replacing beyond the fan itself?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I use the Durametric to attempt to activate the engine compartment fan, nothing happens. With this symptom, are there other components I should be inspecting/replacing beyond the fan itself?

POST 2Original post

Make sure the engine compartment temperature sensor is in the grommet between the intake runners, passenger side behind the AC compressor. And remember, on certain models, Durametric software is notorious for not activating certain systems. You could run a 12V wire and just see if the fan is working.

Fuses would need to be checked. It might operate off a relay, that I don't know.

Relay, fuse, wiring, DME , besides the fan its self. Grab a wiring diagram for your year model car/engine...

POST 6Original post

My Durametric doesn't activate the engine fan either, along with a few other activations not working. Sometimes it will do the radiator fans, sometimes not. Supposedly I just need to upgrade my two year old version (6.5.6.5) BUT, this version isn't recording VIN's either and I'm told if I upgrade it will. This is from a cars & coffee conversation so take it FWIW. The important items I need work fine so I'm keeping as is.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Coolant fans activate great. Stage 1 and 2. I have a 2002 c2 cab. I can see the relay coil go from 8.5 to 12v, but no voltage at the fan. how might I test the temp sensor?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my fuse b4 was blown. Replaced it and the durametric now operates the fan, however the relay is not happy. Clicking like crazy. fan measures about 75-80 ohms

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got a new fuse and the new fan measures 8k ohm. Lights up just like's it's supposed to with durametric. All is good under the hood (lid?)
