Excellent job of using the "search" function, stolen!

I did try tilting the back forwards and backwards using the electric adjustment.

I found this out putting on a ski rack and my foot(I was standing on the sill) caused the seat back to go forward I tried using the lever on the seat back to fix it, but could not get it to work.

If the front seat back is tilted too forward by the electric back adjustment then the lever to fold the seat forward will not work. You need to use the switch on the side of the bottom of the seat to put the back in a more up-right/tilt back position.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi! New member here from Sweden. Just bought a 996 C2, beutiful in black with black interior leather trim. Now one bad thing abput her, the lever for folding the passenger seat doesent work and I cant fold the seat. Anyone?
You could try to remove the seat. I've done this before several times. First remove bolt #7 after removing cover 8, then the seat slides out of the pin #11... however sliding it out of the pin might be difficult to do since you can't unlatch the seat, then you might have to remove cover #9, then bolt #10, in order to remove 11 & 12. You might also be able to remove the opposite side seat first, in order to get better access to the seat that is stuck.
Once out, you can determine what parts you'll need to replace in the latching mechanism.
BTW, first post here means you also need to post some pictures of your car!!!!
Yeah, right, its about the front passenger seat. By the way, some of you maby like this site

On this site Ive found the 996 shop manual but it doesent contain the back rest of the seat, only how to remove it.
Hah! Good catch.
It was "folding" psngr that threw me off. Must have been half asleep. I must have thought to myself, well the rear psngr seats "fold down" whereas the front psngr seats leans forward (or I guess it could fold forward too!). Well I'll leave that up there even though it doesn't help the OP...
Never dismantled a front seat myself, sorry.
OK try this! If the front seat back is tilted too forward by the electric back adjustment then the lever to fold the seat forward will not work. You need to use the switch on the side of the bottom of the seat to put the back in a more up-right/tilt back position. This is the way it is on mine. I found this out putting on a ski rack and my foot(I was standing on the sill) caused the seat back to go forward I tried using the lever on the seat back to fix it, but could not get it to work.
I after a while realized that I had put the seat back too far forward with the electric motor.
Ok, now I have tried tour tricks, Maurice, but it dident work. It must be some kind of malade inside the back rest or between the back rest and the seat. Nice winter repair, I suppose. Id just washed her and now she is shining. Im so proud of her. BTW, the reading on the licens plate says "SHY". Thats her name.

First I have heard of this problem, so good to know how to address it if it ever pops up in my car.
Just curious if someone ever found a solution for this? My drivers side folding lever doesn't work anymore. I cannot move it beyond just half an inch upwards, as if something is stuck inside. How does one remove the center back pad of the sport seats of MY99 996?
I had this issue a month ago and repaired it. Checked my photos, I didn't take good enough (or just plain enough) for a good DIY. I can walk you through it if you want.
Bumping an old thread because I now have the same problem and haven't found a good solution.
Mine is a '99 with hard back sport seats. The passenger seat no longer folds forward. The outside lever moves through the full range of travel, but the inside lever doesn't move up at all. I did try tilting the back forwards and backwards using the electric adjustment. This works fine, but still does not allow the back to fold. This is a sudden thing, was fine one day then stopped folding without warning.
Any advice before I try to take the seat apart?
