Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Quality gas additives are not snake oil and can have very positive effects by cleaning the fuel system and helping clean the combustion chamber.

Suggestion
Adding anything to that oil, or just changing the balance of what is already in that oil -- throws off the balance in the oil company's formulation and is far more likely to worsen performance of the oil than it is to help.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

If only that S**T were true. ........
The manufactures could dump that stuff in when new and even send a few more bottles for 50k,100k, 150k, and just imagine how much $$$ they could save on Warranty Repairs....

I don't know about you, but I already add about 10 additives to my oil so what is one more going to hurt (wink)? Everyone of them claim that there will be no more engine wear in my engine, so the more the merrier (wink wink).
The additives in a fully formulated motor oil have to be balanced, all of them have to get to the metal surface do do their jobs. Anyway this is the way I used to explained it, you got 5 dogs and all of them eat on the same bowl, little chihuahua is going to dye of hunger because German shepherd, Rottweiler, golden retriever and Dalmatian ate the food. If you overpower a formulation a bunch of stuff is not going to happen. Look how expensive this so call miracle additives are. Just change your oil more frequently. I had the same conversation yesterday with Joe Anselmo, Anselmo Motorsports. Flat out he told me his customers that do the 3000 mile 6 months get a bunch of life out of the engines, common to see 200,000 miles,
I am not a tribologist nor other scientist working in this field, but it can be helpful to look at research.
I suspect this is part of the recent (10yrs ?) development of "nanolubricants" which from my searching, most commonly seems to be a Boron Nitride nanoparticle. There are a number of peer reviewed research articles on this approach.
Overview review article. A review article is peer reviewed, but doesn't contribute new research, it only summarizes the overall state of the research. This one shows different types of nano additives, and some pros/cons. I found it interesting.

This is a specific paper showing bemefits from Boron Nitride. It uses a standard test of stainless surfaces at 500rpm:

It's important to remember that there is a long, long way between science lab data, and actual real world benefits.
So while maybe not pure snake oil, there is little to no way to tell if this particular product implements the technology well, how the downsides are balanced, how it might impact other aspects of the oil additive package, how it effects the specific materials in our engines, etc, without time and testing. If it was universally benefitial, it's valid to ask why/if auto/oil manufacturers are using it already, or rather, why not? It could just be cost, but it could be something else.
More searching and real world data would be required to convince me.
So I personally, won't be using these products just yet.
certain oil companies have been using nano in lubes for a while arca 2000s. On all other kind of products too. The big concern is formulation balance. Not as easy as it seems. On top of all of that the cost of formally approving an oil for gasoline pass car its above half a million or more. And Ill continue to go up.
^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^
People often confuse gas additives and oil additives as both being snake oils, when the reality is that (quality) gas additives seldom are snake oil and oil additives almost always are (even if they have good intent).
Quality gas additives are not snake oil and can have very positive effects by cleaning the fuel system and helping clean the combustion chamber. Gas additives don't stay in the engine, so it is a one-time cleaning that is often beneficial with no downsides.
Oil additives, on the other hand, typically are snake oil, even if they have the best of intent, for the exact reason

states. Quality motor oils are all carefully formulated with multiple additives at the oil company to make them perform the best the companies are capable of making them. That formulation is a careful balance of different additives that all work optimally together in carefully specified amounts. Adding anything to that oil, or just changing the balance of what is already in that oil -- throws off the balance in the oil company's formulation and is far more likely to worsen performance of the oil than it is to help. Unlike one-time transient gas treatments, the off-balance oil formulation stays in the engine until the next oil change, so any detrimental effects from disturbing the balance has lasting negative impact.
Said another way: Garlic is generally good for pasta sauce. However, if you add a lot more garlic to a Michelin 3-star restaurant's sauce, whose recipe has been carefully refined over years to be as good as it possibly can be, you are far more likely to make the sauce worse, not better. Garlic is individually good. Michelin 3-star pasta sauce is individually good. The combination of them is far more likely to be worse than it is to be better.
Can't comment on if RVS is any good or bad in general but physically it can't help with bore scoring. The reasoning:
1. RVS claims that its tech is based on triboceramics
2. There's a US patent (
https://patents.google.com/patent/US7977265B2/en
) that says "T
he compound is suitable to form triboceramic layer merely on hard ferric alloys."
3. bore scoring on M96 engines is because of aluminium piston skirt is scraping aluminium engine bore -> aluminium is not ferric. I doubt that the piston skirt protective layer material is ferric (?)
-> triboceramic can't create a layer on aluminium -> no help for bore scoring
ps. There's concept of "netiquette" which defines the concept of announcing when there's a commercial intention behind a message posted. RVS is running a commercial campaign in Finland currently....
