The AOS I just installed has to be loosened in order to get the wrench on it to tighten.

I know quite a few people who have replaced the AOS on the 996.2 without removing the intake or messing with the "bitch bolt".

Our '02 with Tip ran 1/4" extension between AOS and runner, for reinstall bought cap screws and cut short side off a allen wrench to slip between AOS and runner.

Suggestion
I would research using a Boxster AOS because it eliminates 2 lines for coolant that are not needed in normal temperature environment.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey Guys, I'm following the DIY from Pelican parts to do the AOS on my 03 Targa. First, the expension tank was nearly impossible to remove until I not only loosen but completely dropped the engine loose from the motor mounts. I was able to remove 5 bolt from the intake plenum but the most forward bolt is just not accessible, and a rigid hose is positioned just above it making it impossible to access.
Any tips ? The whole job is stuck just for this stupid bolt...
Thanks
This is good advice. You can get internal torx wrenches too.
Also, I have found it helpful to remove the AOS before trying to get to that bolt. With the AOS out of the way, you have a ton more room to get tools back there.

I would research using a Boxster AOS because it eliminates 2 lines for coolant that are not needed in normal temperature environment. The less things I need to route, hook up, and later leak the better.
I actually tried to remove the AOS today, I was able to get to one bolt under the car, not the other. I don't know why my car is such a nightmare to work on... Maybe the previous owner had this replaced at some point and they routed things different or didn't position the AOS right... The AOS plastic base actually sits about 1/2" above the last intake bolt I need to remove. Can't use a ratchen and 10mm box, only an open wrench can fit there, but I don't have the room to loosen it.
Man, what a nightmare job for such a stupid bolt.
You have my complete sympathy. Horrible job, I reviewed all the posts and videos out there before attempting on my '02 cab, still struggling with it. It was not too bad removing that bolt, using a combo of " extensions. It can be done. What I never gleaned from every post/video I viewed was how tricky the sucker is when re-installing. The AOS I just installed has to be loosened in order to get the wrench on it to tighten. Good luck, others have done this job before, So can we.

They just lower the engine all the way to the crossmember and work "over the top" ...Done in a few hours.......
