I changed the inner and outer tie rods, but this did not help.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been chasing a front suspension noise for weeks now. My car is a 03 with 32K miles. The noise is a clunk/rattle on the passenger side only when going at slow speed over rough roads and when the car is warm. I changed the inner and outer tie rods, but this did not help. Finally, I narrowed the culprit to the fuel sending unit. There is a heavy ball in the top of the sending unit that is a safety feature to shut the fuel supply off in case of a roll over. The noise happens more frequently with a lower fuel level. I have a new unit but it rattles too, so I am reluctant to change it to see if the noise goes away, but at least I have isolated the problem without throwing more parts at it. Hopefully, this will help someone else chasing this noise. You Tube You Tube

POST 3Original post

I'm certainly not saying you're wrong at all...but in an effort to sort out my fuel gauge calibration, I came across this video a few days ago. He goes through the whole fuel level rattle scenario and finally discovers that it was his radio harness hitting the metal plate in the dash. You Tube

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I saw that video too. But he does admit the fuel sending unit is an inherent problem, but he also had a rattle in the radio compartment. He also replaced every suspension component and still had the rattle/clunk.
