Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. The cigarettes lighter is used for trickle battery charger.
Leading evidence: 'Use trickle battery charger' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean bill of health minus a few small things' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I had it go through a PPI with an indy Porsche mechanic and he gave it a clean bill of health minus a few small things.

I got into the car again today, started it and started testing all the buttons.

The cigarette lighter does not work and the actual lighter is stuck, which is a bummer, since I cannot use a bluetooth charger for my phone.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased a 2004 996 C4S (My first Porsche) from a local dealer. I had it go through a PPI with an indy Porsche mechanic and he gave it a clean bill of health minus a few small things.
I picked up the car from the dealer and he told that the alarm goes off if you don't start the car within 5 seconds. After picking up the car, I've read a lot about re-syncing the fob, various sequences to make it work.
I swapped out the battery since pushing the buttons on the fob did not emit any red light. Since swapping the battery, the red lights do come on. I managed to have the frunk open via the fob, but the doors do not unlock.
I tried unlocking and pushing button 1 (as the manual states) to activate the remote. This did not help.
I notice that when I lock the car manually, the car beeps once, which according to literature, means that there is something that is not 'closed' properly.
I made sure the center lid and glove compartment is closed shut. The frunk seems to be closed as well as the engine cover.
The cigarette lighter does not work and the actual lighter is stuck, which is a bummer, since I cannot use a bluetooth charger for my phone. The indy mechanic said it could be a blown fuse but I obviously cannot diagnose things with the alarm beeping, and I cannot pull fuses in and out with the car running.
I decided to purchase a iCarsoft POR 2.0 to help me see if there are any fault codes that could help me figure out what the issue might be.
Not sure if anyone have any pointers or things I can try to either :
a) Sync the keys
b) Disable the alarm without starting the car so I can at least measure fuses or eventually do repairs on the car.
Thank you.
Disconnect the alarm horn. It is under the frunk drivers side cover. At least until you figure out what is causing the alarm. You could also take it back to the dealer for diagnoses with Porsche PIWIS. That will tell you exactly what is wrong.
Hi, first thing start with fixing the cigarette lighter. You may have a short in it.
The cigarettes lighter is used for trickle battery charger. Seems like there is a connection between the alarm and a cigarette lighter and if you have a short that throws things off. Good luck.
Ok, thanks. Meanwhile, the previous owner found the spare key. I will be getting it shortly… but yes, first thing is first… I need to fix the lighter.
Silly question but can I pull out the lighter fuse while the alarm is going off?
I got into the car again today, started it and started testing all the buttons. I also opened and closed the glove compartment and the center console.
After switching off the ignition, I tried locking with the button on the fob, nothing happen, BUT when I locked it manually... there was no beeping!
So I guess something got fixed while pushing all the buttons in the car.
I also received the spare key from the previous owner. The light did not light up on the fob even though I put in a new battery. After doing the reverse polarity trick, the light lit up but it still did not unlock the doors.
Not sure what should be my next step... I'm waiting for the spare fuses to arrive to so I can at least swap out the cigarette lighter fuse.
Thanks.
--- Update ---
I swapped out the fuse for the lighter. It was blown, so now the lighter works!
I can now sit in the car with no alarms going off either if I leave the key in the ignition, but without starting it. So that's great!
The fob doesn't unlock the doors, but I think I can live with that!
