I have used PIWIS extensively and have always been able to pull up cam deviations and over revs, but for some reason on this car they were not available.

I was recently helping a new 996 owner who just bought a 1/98 NA market C2 look over the general condition. The S/N was a very early build, within the first 100 or so cars off the assembly line. I connected my PIWIS3 to check some parameters and I could not find cam deviation readings anywhere. I could not see over revs either. I tried restarting the software a few times but no change. I have used PIWIS extensively and have always been able to pull up cam deviations and over revs, but for some reason on this car they were not available. Any thoughts on why? Possibly a very early version of the DME software? Am I missing something in the PIWIS menus? Stumped!

Fairly certain that DME 5.2.2 does not have actual values for cam deviations. I ran into this when I did mine and wasn't able to find a solution. Just replaced the guides, lined everything up and hoped it was good!

I have had the same issue with an early 996 and the PIWIS III. I have had to use my Professional Durametric in order to get camshaft deviations. The later 996.1 & 996.2 camshaft definitions are present in the PIWIS, but not the early ones.

I had same problem with my 01/98. Cam deviations only available on Durametric. Even then, they only show up as half a degree of resolution. After retiming the engine, I was able to get to 0.0 and -1.0 cam deviation.

Not sure if its been said but cable throttle body cars only report 1 side of the cam deviation like row cars.

Yeah PIWIS only reports bank 1 even on US spec cars. Durametric does both cam deviations on the early 5.2 DME, however actual cam angle for each sensor is also not available like the later ECUs
