I can't quite rememeber exeactly but I think it was the close button that I had to keep depressed.

I have just replaced the switch since I thought that may have been a good place to start but it made no difference.

Hello, I have an issue with my 2003 996. The sunroof motor will only operate in the close or pop up direction and won't operate in the tilt down or slide open direction. I can open and close the sunroof with the emergency tool and whilst its not exactly super easy, it doesn't bind anywhere in particular. The sunroof was operating ok but intermittently up until the last month when this issue came up. I have just replaced the switch since I thought that may have been a good place to start but it made no difference. I'm now wondering if there is a micro switch that senses when its fully open that may have failed and is telling the motor that it can't open any more so don't try. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Fingers crossed it stays that way and now I have to get some lube into it since it seems to struggle a bit more than I'd like. Thansk very much for taking the time to help. Greatly appriceiated.

Keep us posted. I'm having sunroof issues too. Have to press and hold the tilt to close button twice to work. Full open gets interrupted/stuck so I don't use it.

Mine is doing this exact thing. I have to push twice to close, the middle button does nothing and the slide open button is about as random as my keyfob as to whether it works at all or not. I believe I read that the motor assembly has the brains of the operation attached to it. Its $500 so I'm sure that's what my problem is.
