This is not a probability of success.

Initial thoughts are that it easily pulls double-duty as a long distance hauler (already did an SF-LA roundtrip run) and a great canyon carver, and this is on the stock 20 year old suspension.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
New-ish 996 owner here. Picked up a 2002 996 C4s about 4 months ago with 54k on the odometer and have truly been enjoying the car. Car is a Canadian import (I'm located in Northern California) and since picking it up I've logged about 2,500-miles thus far. Before doing so however I did do a PPI (car checked out just fine - no bore scoring or other oddities) and then did the 60k service, along with a host of preventative maintenance. LN IMS Solution, rear main seal, clutch, flywheel, all belts, hoses, new PS2s, etc, etc, etc - it was a very long list - hell, even did the Gundo hack on the exhaust (sounds great).
This C4s is my first 911, but not first Porsche - had a near perfect '86 928s that I parted with just over a year ago and prior to that a quick little '88 944s. I'm also in the automotive field and have been fortunate enough to have driven almost every iteration of 911 EXCEPT the 996 - go figure.
I haven't posted yet because I wanted to get some miles under my belt first and honestly, I'm shocked that ANY automotive enthusiast would have negative things to say about these car. Is there interior perfect, no but it certainly doesnt deserve the reputation it has. As far as the driving goes and power goes though, the car is an absolutely hoot. Its plenty quick and handles like beautifully - hell, I personally feel that anything in the 911 family after the 997.2 feels a bit bloated.
Suffice to say Im thrilled with this thing and plan on racking up as many miles on it as I can on it - simply put, its brilliant. I've already learned a lot about these cars from lurking here for awhile, but now I'm stoked to be apart of the club!
Very nice. Liking the rear wiper. Mine is an '04 C4S same color and options but a convertible although I had always driven it with the hard top. If i do w/o the hard top i probably save some weight.
- SO TRUE!
I have to say that my 928s was a helluva car. 32v aluminum V8, dogleg 5-speed with superb handling (even with 225-series rubber), and who knows, I may get another one day. However the C4s just seems so much more surefooted in every aspect. I also absolutely LOVE the wide body stance on this thing.
I also plan on taking it to the track - not going to drive it 100%, but I do want to see where its strengths and weaknesses are when pushed. Initial thoughts are that it easily pulls double-duty as a long distance hauler (already did an SF-LA roundtrip run) and a great canyon carver, and this is on the stock 20 year old suspension. Right now there are no plans to modify anything but simply enjoy it as is!
Sounds like you did all the right things to set yourself up for a fun ownership experience. They are a hoot to drive and NorCal has awesome driving roads. Now go rack up some more miles!
Welcome to the C4S group. They sure have a pretty rear end, don't they. There is no question the 996s out performed everything that came before them. It seems difficult to get people to move ahead sometimes.
It sounds odd, but as a 2002 model, the C4s is now the most adult car I own (and the newest) out of seven, but I suppose we all have to grow up sometime.
