However, upon inspection, I noted a disconnected hose (see photo) that looks like a vapor return line for the fuel tank filler.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a CEL with Fault Code P0446 ( DTC Description: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Vent Control Circuit) on my 1999 996-C4 Cabriolet . I understand that this is likely electrical. Especially given the current project where I am running GPS signal and speaker wire through the passenger side firewall grommet for the new head unit and amp, it could be a shorted or damaged wire that passes through that location. However, upon inspection, I noted a disconnected hose (see photo) that looks like a vapor return line for the fuel tank filler. I'm damned if I can find where it is supposed to be connected. Any ideas? The photo is taken from the front of the vehicle looking at the passenger side (US) firewall. Disconnected hose originates under the grey A/C line on left (clear plastic)... the open end is center of screen (black hose with right angle connection)

POST 3Original post

That is the old lead acid battery vent hose. Newer batteries, especially AGM battery's, don't require a vent hose.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much. That explains why it is floating around, homeless

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thankyou. My hopes that re-connecting a line to resolve the CEL are dashed
