Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Everyone,
I know there are threads on baby seats but hadnt seen anything on if a baby seat can be placed rear facing in back seat or not? Do base systems work? Any info on brand and parts (or with an old system to sell) please DM me (have a newborn and need a fix urgently!)
I was never able to find a rear facing child seat that fit in the back. Maybe there are now because that was 20 years ago. I just waited it out til she could face front then put her in the back... of course, then my son came and wifey took over the car!! Did you get the Airbag cutoff device installed OK?
Why do you need the airbag cutoff if the car seat is in the back? You should be able to get a rear facing seat back there if you also do not need a passenger in the front (the front seat needs to be folded and pushed up in a lot of cases...
What I did was buy a Mini Cooper or an M3/M5 when the kids are babies. Because, look, you also need a stroller and diaper bag and all that Jazz, but dont give up a fun car. Then, when my kids were old enough to face forward, the Diono was one of the few thin/narrow car seats that would fit in the back of the 911.
I sold him my old FRONT SEAT airbag cutoff device for when he uses it in the front. My ex ended up driving it more than me when the 2nd kid came. booster seat in the back and rear facing in the front. After both kids could fit in boosters in the back I got the car back! diaper bag and mini stroller fit just fine! Then when they started school she took over the car for the most part driving them to school since she was the administrator. They are all in college now (5 kids) and still remember those days fondly!
I'm new so I guess that means I can't start a new thread. I've spent about 30 minutes trying to find the answer to my question and I know repeat questions on boards is a big no-no but I'm not able to find the answer. Does anyone know what car seat brands are currently being sold that will fit in the back of a 996 convertible? This is actually a topic that should be addressed every few years because child seat laws change, child seat manufactures stop making models (e.g. Recaro), new models come out every few years, etc.
I'm in need of a booster seat and a forward facing car seat for my 4 year and 2 year old, respectively. TIA.
No. Not that I can think of. Ive got about 5 between my truck and the wifes Camry. I guess Ill just start measuring the seats and going to Walmart and measuring the ones on display.
i cant believe there arent more owners out there with small children that havent got this sorted already. There seems to be a couple dads on the other side of the pond that have (different laws and buying options though) but nothing here in the States on the boards in the last two years or so.
Ill figure it out myself and post my findings (If Im allowed to start a thread by then) because surely there are other US dads facing the same dilemma.
Absolutely loving my new 996 btw.
I found a seat that fit in the back of my C4S by parking in front of the shop and trying out all the available seats.I did remove the cushions and the back of the seat for a better fitment. I also did a small modification to the rear bulkhead to install a hook at the bottom of it so I could add a tethering point, it was an easy job. I removed the back liner and found few structural bolts securing the rollover protection system. I removed one of the bolts and installed a hook and replace the bolt wth a longer one.

When I posted a thread a few months ago, I was told Cosco Scenera Next is the one to get. Though looking at the dimensions now I think they weren't paying attention and didn't consider the size when set to be rear facing
I see now you're looking for forward racing. In that case I think the Clek models would also fit, but am not sure, it's a close call. There are several models of Britax and a model of Recaro that I think would fit (a user in Italy posted his with a Britax Evolva 123 in the rear, and these other models are listed as being narrower still), but they're all for the european market and you'd have to import them (fyi any non express, e.g. DHL that isn't DHL express, or any country's national post) is taking at a minimum 4 weeks these days. The benefit of the Clek models over the Scenera Next is they fit the child for 6 more inches of height growth. The benefit of those Britax and Recaro models is they will fit for another 4 inches of growth beyond that (and some models all the way to 4'9", though they still have the back on and there's no reason to have the back on a booster in the 911 rear seat).
If someone comes across this thread later, so far my research is the best bet for rear facing is a Combi Coccoro (in forward facing mode will only fit the child to 40" though), but I haven't tried it yet.
Thanks Marlin. Ill look into it. My 996 isnt my daily driver so Im not convinced I even want them riding in it.
Winston Churchill once said that golf was the best way to spoil a good walk. Im kind of thinking that this might be a good analogy of crying/screaming kids in the Porsche.
I think it depends on the kids. My dad would take me on Saturday morning drives out to the country where we could go fast for as long as I can remember, but we were well behaved quiet children. We'll see if I get lucky enough to have the same.
Oh, and I read somewhere that if you get the Cosco Scenera Next seat pay the small premium for the DLX version, apparently the fabric is longer lasting and more comfortable.
For what it is worth, I went through this recently in my coupe, and found that the Maxi Cosi Pria 85 works just fine. A pain the butt to install, but no issues what so ever once in. Maybe someone else can chime in about coupe to cabriolet rear seat differences?
I recently went through this same situation. I'm driving a coupe though, so I have slightly more room to work with. Went with Cosco Topside backless booster for my six year old based on recommendations I found from scouring the forums on booster seat width. Fits decently, cheap, and my daughter loves going for rides in "Dads Race Car."
Now the front facing car seat dilemma. For starters I wanted the safest car seat I could find for my three year old. I spent almost an entire day looking for a seat for him, like 10am to 6pm with a lunch break. It was downright torture. I went to Target, Bye Bye Baby (that place is F'n terrible by the way, avoid like plague), Kohls, and finally a Hail Mary to Wally World. Tried all of the recommended narrow body super heavy euro car seats, a handful of them fit, but all were too tall and dug into the C pillar. Not okay with that. If I'm going to fork over $300+ on a seat it needs to fit without damaging the car. After at least 10 fit tests, which all of the stores were reluctant/less than helpful (this was pre-pandemic end of January 2020 YMMV) I had all but given up.
On the way home I decided to stop at Walmart, looked at the selection and almost immediately spotted another Cosco product, the Scenera NEXT. This is not a fancy seat and I do question the integrity of its side impact protection. However, the shape and construction is damn near perfect and if anyone has found a seat that fits more secure I'm all ears. Until, someone mentions otherwise the COSCO SCENERA NEXT is the go to front facing car seat for the 996. Dont even wast your time with anything else, I tried them all and they fit like doo doo. (Check out my avatar). I found I got the most secure fit by removing the bottom cushion and rolling two towels under the indents of the car seat base, you'll see what I mean when you look at the bottom. Everyday my kids ask to take the Race Car. Even if my engine blows up today, getting to share my passion for cars with my kids is priceless. So glad my wife encouraged me to get a car with room for all of us.
Now, taking a utility knife to that rear parcel shelf...
I think where the issue comes up with the euro seats is for the US market the euro seat companies seem to make completely different seats that are much larger than what they make for their home market.
For another forward facing option, this was posted in the 992 thread.

I will note that they got recalled last year for the aluminum headrest tube breaking.
