Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just finished getting my engine together after changing the bearings too.
Leading evidence: 'Replace bearings too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I thought there was one company that made oversized bearings but they were stupid expensive ($1k/set).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello new friends, I just sold my 996 c2 for a 997.2 turbo (child hood dream car). I bought it crashed and I'm rebuilding it. I also bought a 996 coupe that needed a lot of tlc. It required a motor rebuild and I'm almost done. The 996 I bought with intentions to resell but the turbo is mine
I recently started a YouTube channel that is based around Porsches and " how to" videos that I hope can help some people out there and entertain the rest. There is a step by step "how to" rebuild a M96 motor from crank up!
I know this is a knowledgeable group of Porsche owners so feel free to comment and prefect the craft. I have been working on these cars for years and can always learn something new . If you can please subscribe to my YouTube channel and the cost to you is nothing but will help me out. Currently I'm at 449 subscribers and cant wait to see how many more subscribers I will get from this group. I know rennlist is filled with hardcore Porsche enthusiasts so I know you will enjoy this content.
I cant wait to hear from you

the rod journal was cut .001 and a oversized bearing was put in its place. No one makes oversized bearings for these cranks you might ask?..... yes you are correct! a bearing from a different application was matched by my machine shop (older guys with that old experience type of knowledge)
you should watch from the first episode to get the whole story on that car. I have about 4 more episodes left to edit on this project but in reality is up to being detailed now.
subscribe please
Back 40 years ago I built a lot of Ford T-88 series 2.0L race engines ( I developed one into 525hp)...It was common practice to cut the rod journals to 2.0" and use 5.7" long Chevy rods, The bearings were better material , many oversize s available, (slows the surface speeds), the rods were longer (better crank angle/rod stroke ratio, slower piston speed) and many good quality rods available in that size, at a good price, a win-win.
M96 engines have a Nitride process on the crank,(soft flexible base material with a hard coating) if cut much, should be re-Nitrided.
I have worked on many Nitride cranks (subaru motors) but this one didn't look like it was nitrated or coated, it looked like steel, if there was an issue with cutting the crank the machine shop would of told me there's an issue we have worked on many projects in the past that where successful, even a motor that won a championship road racing 2015.
The M96 cranks are definitely steel, but not a hard steel. They have a very thin hard Nitride treatment about .003 thick. If you only cut .001 off, you are probably OK

I just finished getting my engine together after changing the bearings too. Will check out your videos soon. Thanks for documenting it, it helps anyone in the future that plans on doing this. The more information is out there, the better for the DIY owners.
Well it was intended for people who like cars and/or fun, so its not intended for everyone. Thank you for sharing you opinion, even though it's not useful, funny or entertaining but if you would have stuck with the video till the end the last 10 seconds were intended for you. cheers thank you
If I may suggest, get a microphone that's attached to you. That should improve the audio from fading in/out and reduce the echoing. Otherwise I liked the video.
