I'm guessing that used mufflers aren't so cheap anymore.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As pointed out on earlier post, I failed trying to pull my mufflers off. The plan was to pull off and get Fisters. Looking at mine, the seams are starting to go so likely not exchangeable anyhow. Anyone have suggestions for a nice muffler for around $1k. I looking for a little louder and preferably no drone. Not sure if doable. Maybe I get lightly used.
Thanks,
David
I bought a used set and sent them to Fister. I'm guessing that used mufflers aren't so cheap anymore. I think I paid $100 for the pair about 10 years ago. It's still worth looking. Fister may be able to repair the ones you have.
Go with Fisters. Theyre nice and Ive really enjoyed having mine on. I had a similar issue with one of my OEM mufflers going bad. After putting my Fisters on, returned my stock ones, and sent a note to Darren that one of the OEM mufflers I was shipping back had a rattle.
Fister thanked me for the info, and still gave me some financial credit for the bad one. You can send them back to them, but let them know, theyll inspect it, and determine what the value is to return your deposit!
I'm running BillyBoat and love the sound, little more than $1k though. Handful of people on here running TopGear mufflers and those are around $600.
There's a thread floating around that has sound clips of a lot of different muffler setups if you care to look at other options also.

I'm also running BillyBoat. I've had them for almost two years. They sound great. No Drone at highway speeds and fairly docile as far as sound goes unless you're WOT.
I have the PSE and the exhaust tips could use a real nice polishing, but I'm also thinking of replacing them if that's possible.
Anyone have suggestions for this?
I have Tubi Style mufflers and never get sick of the sound
There are matched with Kline Equal length long tube headers (1 5/8") and Top Gear 200 Cell "X" pipe

On a similar note when I bought my 2002 cab the owner told me it had "Porsche sport" mufflers on it and he gave the the stock mufflers along with it. I've seen the thread with a lot of muffler audio clips but is there a good resource to VISUALLY compare with what is on my car? They sound great and I have no plan to change them, I'd just like to know what I truly have installed.
FWIW I'd be willing to part with my stock mufflers. They look to be in great used condition. I'm in NW Ohio if anyone is interested.
I’m very happy with my Fabspeed Maxflow mufflers.
I’m glad the previous owner bought them!
He offered me the stock mufflers, but I didn’t want them.
I had/have no place to store them.
I am shocked by how good the Gundo mod sounds. You shouldn't be allowed to drive a 996 that doesn't have it done. YouTube videos don't do it justice (not that phone recordings should be expected to). I paid $225 without shopping around at all, and am very happy I didn't get aftermarket or pre-modded ones.

I ended up buying Fister. Comes in a couple weeks.
Question: if I brake one of the theee bolts on the bracket that the muffler is held in place by, do I need to buy a new bracket? I have two loose on both sides, the third Im afraid to turn for fear of snapping the bolt?
Not sure what to do if that happens.
Im running a Solo Axleback system thats perfect for me. No drone and just the right burble. My buddy is also running a Solo system but his is the cat back system. Also has an incredible sound, a little louder than mine but really awesome. Similar to a cigarette boat! All stainless and tunable for drone. I would check them out. Axle back is around $500 and cat back is around $1000.
That happened to me (well, the shop that did the Gundo hack) and the bolts can be drilled out, and a replacement tack welded in. The tech who did the work wasn't even phased when it happened.

I have BillyBoat and love the sound/weight. Just a note that the tips are unique to BB, they rust easily and the wait for new parts is very long. Ask me how I know...
Just to give you another option, I went with Porsche tequipment tips. They are larger than the standard tips. I found them on eBay. I really like the look of them.

Ill do some searching for relevant threads, but what are these tips made of, and what should I use to polish/clean them with. Like to touch these up when I get around to swapping in the Fister mufflers I bought.
