By the limited records i have the bearing is about 5 years old with 20k on it i get by the age the bearing should be replaced soon but with 200k miles on the motor im sure it would fail a prequal and im not gonna dump extra money into this one right now.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i dropped the motor today and seperated the trans expecting to find a leaking rms but nope it was the ims. After reading some posts it looks like they have possible leak areas from an o-ring on the inner stud, another on the od of the flange and encapsulated bolts. Im guessing ill call LNE for parts in monday. Is there anything else i should be checkkng for, purchasing? I do understand the LNE proceedure for flange seal removal and install. By the limited records i have the bearing is about 5 years old with 20k on it i get by the age the bearing should be replaced soon but with 200k miles on the motor im sure it would fail a prequal and im not gonna dump extra money into this one right now.

POST 2Original post

You'd need to follow the IMS procedure to a T before pulling the flange. It's possible when the bearing was replaced that the IMS shaft wasn't perfectly centered in the IMS housing bore in the block. That's a really sharp edge and if the flange is forced, it will shave the tips of the triple lip seal and cause a leak just like this. With as many miles that are on the engine (and were on the engine when it was done), I'm guessing that is what occurred. When there is more than a few degrees of cam timing deviation, the IMS shaft will often be pulled to one side, especially if the tensioner on the top of the engine under the a/c compressor was left in when the job was originally done.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thx for the info Charles. I was deffinately gonna follow the lme install guide. Its already down loaded. The nice thing is i am already replacing the variocam pads and tensioners so i should have a nicely centered ims. I have also already talked to your customer service and ordered the o-ring kit. Its LME part # 106-08.IMSRORINGS for anyone else that has this issue.
