Thanks all for confirming, going to look into replacing latch as suspected.

Next step would be to replace the microswitch on the outside latch.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
First off, I am aware of this thread and am fairly certain I need to replace my window latch but had a question before I do:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1062574-diy-996-door-latch-replacement-detailed-8.html
After years of using a single, busted-up key fob I decided to pucker up and head to the Stealership and get some new keys. After being financially violated, I now have two working key fobs!
Problem is upon returning driver side window is doing the following:
Window lowers slightly when opening latch from inside.
Window raises immediately when inside latch is released.
Window does not move/no sound when outside latch is opened.
Obviously this causes issues closing the door unless I leave window cracked. Has anyone seen this before after programming new keys and is there a possible fix?
I realize the car is 27 yo and we should expect the unexpected but cant help to feel its possibly connected to the key programming.
Thanks in advance -
First step - reset the window upper/lower limits. Push the down button for the window and when it is down continue to hold the button for 10-12 seconds. Then raise the window and continue to hold the up button for 10-12 seconds. See if that works....
Thanks DB,
Interestingly, I didn't realize the 'auto window raise' function also was not working and your process above fixed that - thanks!
Alas, I still have the issue with the comfort window feature not working..
I think this would be sound advice and worth a try if it was the passenger side door (at

$525), but since its the driver's door and the OEM part is about $125, I think I would just buy the new latch and be done with it.
I'm not sure what y'all are calling the "latch" but if the window drops when inside handle is raised but does not drop when outside handle is raised, then the switch ( part # 14) is the likely suspect and is available as a separate part from the outside handle..
Thanks!
I know - I am a bit confused by some of the terminology re: switch vs latch. From researching various threads, my issue is caused by 'a switch on the latch'. I'm hoping this is the switch you referenced.
My issue is as you stated above. Plus, the window does not stay dropped with the door open (goes right back up when you release inner door handle).
Hoping this is the 'switch' that is responsible for that function.
Thanks again for the help folks! Hope you all have a safe and fun 4th!
there is another switch on the "lock" mechanism ( I think that is what you are referring to as the latch ) that tells the Immo whether the door is open or closed and may be your culprit if the Immo thinks the door is always open
, door lock is part #14 in this picture ..
