Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

I agree that the first two are worthless given that most sellers are selling "As Is." Instead of a PPI full of "fluff", I would ask for a quote on just scoping the cylinders, checking oil/filter, and checking the ECU.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wanted to make a thread seeing as no one has answered this question. Recently I was going through the process of getting a 996. Everyone and their mothers know that you should get a thorough PPI done. I called seven shops; A&P, Steve's Imports, Heckmann Thiemann, Matrix, Marque Motors, Stuttgart Autotech and of course the dealer. In an effort to not out any specific shop I will give the range I received back from them. Low end: $278 - Included a 35 point mechanical inspection, ECU inquiry for over revs, and visual inspection of paint and interior. 2-3 hours of labor. Mid tier - 400 - Included road tests, mechanical inspection, paint inspection, and ECU inquiry. Half day of labor Highest tier - $1100 - Included road test, paint, ecu, mechanical, drop oil pan to inspect, and scoping cylinders. 1 - 1.5 days of labor. I ended up buying from out of state so I went with a different shop. I will say that all the shops were super professional and informative on 996s and what they were going to be looking for. Depending on what level of inspection you would like, I would feel comfortable recommending any of them.

POST 2Original post

3rd one is the only one worth anything these days since dropping the pan and scoping the cylinders is a must, first 2 are worthless IMO. Not sure if $1100 is the right amount but that doesn't seem outrageous.

POST 3Original post

I agree that the first two are worthless given that most sellers are selling "As Is." Instead of a PPI full of "fluff", I would ask for a quote on just scoping the cylinders, checking oil/filter, and checking the ECU.
