The previous owner installed taco wing and side skirts but no new front bumper so my car gets squirrely on the highway

So when the cover was replaced, I made sure that the body shop was ordering the cover that was the aero.

Prior to this repair, I always felt that the front end was a little light (I don't know how to describe it other than it seemed I was making small steering corrections for any road imperfection, wind, etc.).

lol.but it is an expendable part, turbo owners are constantly replacing them although those lips are different,gt3s are lower than standard c2s so naturally they will be scraping alot if your not real careful or if your c2 has lowered suspension that will also happen, one of those things you have live with on a lowered vehicle, porsche recommends using the spoiler to appreciate the full affect of the aero kit.heres a picture of my aero with the cup spoiler.....enjoy
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2004 C2 with factory optioned aero kit. I recently had to replace the front bumper skin on my 996. Its my first 996 so I didn't realize that the aero option 1a small spoiler that is on the bottom of the bumper (that reverses direction to the car and sticks back out a couple of inches as an air spoiler). Prior owner must have damaged the one that was on the car before I bought it and I didn't know it was missing. So when the cover was replaced, I made sure that the body shop was ordering the cover that was the aero. So my understanding is that this is a two part bumper skin where the spoiler being referenced is mounted to the bottom of the main skin. I've driven a couple of times since the repair and the last time noticed a scraping sound as I came off the highway. That spoiler came unfastened from the main skin. Two questions:
1. The body shop fastened the spoiler to the main skin with these plastic "rivets". I am confident that I didn't hit anything that could have knocked the spoiler off and this mounting system seems rather weak for a part that will be the first to hit something. Is this normally how the spoiler is fastened vs. a more secure method such as nut and bolt?
2. As mentioned, I only drove it a couple of times but before I noticed this problem I specifically recall 00feeling like the front end was more planted at highway (70 mph plus) speeds. Prior to this repair, I always felt that the front end was a little light (I don't know how to describe it other than it seemed I was making small steering corrections for any road imperfection, wind, etc.). My gut feel would have been that the rear spoiler wouldn't be making the front end light at those speeds but maybe I'm wrong (this assumes that this little front spoiler actually would counter act such lift). Any input on this?
Thanks for the input.Dan
first the aero kit combo, rear wing, rockers, and bumper has a few different front spoiler options, there is the small spoiler that mounts under neath the front bumper that you cant see it unless you look under the front right?,and i believe thats the spoiler that comes from the factory with the aerokit option on 2002 on up C2s.the gt3 aerokits are identical except that the front spoiler lip attaches and wraps around the bottom of the bumper and is visible from above, there is also a gt3 cup spoiler option that is similar to the regular gt3 lip but extends farther back to the front wheelwells, and from the factory they are attached with doublesided tape and plastic push in clips/rivets,they are designed to pull away from the bumper on purpose so as not to damage the bumper itself in case you hit any thing substantial, the lips will scrape and are very durable themselves, ask me how i know! lol.but it is an expendable part, turbo owners are constantly replacing them although those lips are different,gt3s are lower than standard c2s so naturally they will be scraping alot if your not real careful or if your c2 has lowered suspension that will also happen, one of those things you have live with on a lowered vehicle, porsche recommends using the spoiler to appreciate the full affect of the aero kit.heres a picture of my aero with the cup spoiler.....enjoy
My spoiler is the first one you described. It is not as pronounced as the picture you had (doesn't go back to the fender and is visible only if you stand back from the car a bit). I get the idea of it coming loose if hit but if I "hit" anything it had to have been a very minor brush. If it comes off that easy, it would seem to be not very functional.
They indeed do come off very easily. They’re also supposed to have double sided tape to help. Many people have replaced them with sturdier attachment styles, but you’d start to risk damaging the bumper if you go too aggressive with how it’s attached...
Does anyone have part numbers for these spoilers? The previous owner installed taco wing and side skirts but no new front bumper so my car gets squirrely on the highway
