Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The AOS was replaced right before I got the car also.
Leading evidence: 'Replace air oil separator' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Be sure they used a Genuine Porsche AOS as someone else mentioned.

I will pull the oil cooler soon to check the o-ring to hopefully explain the oil on the right top.

Be sure after you change these parts out that you do a vehicle handover to reset the adaptation on the ECU then monitor your fuel trims for any other issues.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am working on a 2002 996 that was burning a ton of oil out of the drivers side exhaust mainly. 2nd gear is wasted also so I decided to drop the engine and transmission. Now that I have the engine out there is so much oil all over the top of the engine(on both heads) and that seems really strange. I was wondering if anyone has run into having this same oil issue. The AOS was replaced right before I got the car also. Thanks in advance.
Everything Bill pointed out...replace them all since the engine is out. I know you said it was burning a lot of oil out the drivers side exhaust, but you have something else going on. Check the oil filler pipe for cracks. Better yet just replace it too. Pull the spark plugs and bank 2 and see if they are really sooty or oily. It could be your AOS has failed (again)...known to fail right out of the box sometimes. I would just replace it again. And only get a OE Porsche AOS. Expensive yes, but way better than off-brand knockoffs.
The tube that runs across the back of the engine that connects to the top of the AOS was connected with electrical tape and a hose clamp(definitely not sealing) which is most likely causing the oil on the top left side. I will pull the oil cooler soon to check the o-ring to hopefully explain the oil on the right top. Theres no significant oil inside the throttle body. Could that loose tube on the AOS be causing the oil burning?
Whomever worked on it last was hack. The AOS vent tube should have been replaced at the same time as the AOS. Be sure they used a Genuine Porsche AOS as someone else mentioned. If they didn't, replace it.
Besides the huge oil leak, this has caused a huge vacuum leak that causes the engine to run rich, which will kill the cylinders. Be sure after you change these parts out that you do a vehicle handover to reset the adaptation on the ECU then monitor your fuel trims for any other issues.
The guy who worked on this before was definitely a hack. These are some pictures of all the oil that has collected on the block. The electrical tape, silicone, and hose clamp repair to the AOS tube was definitely a hack job but I dont think the oil all over the block was coming from there. There was some oil in the plastic intake(more on the right side). Any other ideas where this oil could be coming from? I ordered a borescope and am planning to check out the cylinders for scoring as soon as I get it. Thanks again.
