Went to change the oil today and the drain plug is stripped.

If he had enough experience and skill to run a car like that then he also would have had enough experience and skill to walk away without buying it.

Shop that did my 60,000 mile service for me did an oil change as well even though I told them it had just been done and it didn't need to be done as part of the 60k. Paid for the oil change because it wasn't that big a deal.
Went to change the oil today and the drain plug is stripped. So now the car is at the dealership trying to see if they can get it out and replace it for me. What should have been a satisfying day of simple DIY maintenance has turned into a couple days without my car, labor costs from the dealership and just generally a headache.
There, I wanted to complain. Now I have.
I'll keep that in mind. I would imagine that a lightly stripped oil drain plug should be no issue for a dealership. I put my hex wrench in and gave it a try and stopped as soon as I saw it start to slip a little so I didn't end up making matters worse. I was hoping that just the bottom edge was buggered up and that it would bite deeper into the socket but it didn't.
The service writer said he would have a guy sneak it in tomorrow, they are using the oil I already bought and the spare drain plug and washer I already bought (I've heard the drain plugs can be a problem so I bought a spare....) so it will be labor only. I was able to change out the filter today no problem.
Just once I'd like something to go according to plan!!
I read a few threads about stripped plugs so ended up buying a LNE anodized oil drain plug(bonus of having a magnet) and it was just in time because my last oil change was probably the last time the regular drain plug would have tolerated the poor fit of the hex key. New plug fits the key snugly
I saw that ad on CL as well the other day. Poor bastard has nobody but himself to blame, unlike the OP who was innocent.
I know we were all stupid when we were young but I don't remember being stupid enough to think that buying a vintage highly modified semi-exotic sports car was going to work out OK.

Maybe I'm a cold hearted old bastard but I don't have any sympathy for the CL kid. I do however sympathize with the OP. Raw deal, but at least its an easy fix. I switched to the billet plug by the way. The OEM plugs are too soft.
I did the same thing on my drain plug. I didn't fully put the key into the plug and the key slipped and stripped the alan fitting. Not the actual drain plug threads. We have a car wash nearby which changes oil all thew time. I took it there along with a new drain plug and washer and he told me that I am not to first or will I be the last person to bugger up the alan wrench part. He told me that I didn't first make sure that the alan key was fully into the plug before trying to loosen the plug. Air gets trapped behind the alan key (wrench) and that was the cause. They have special tools to remove these stripped plugs and they see them often. They put MY oil into the car and I dropped them $20 for some dough nuts haha. I know the lads there as they use my swimming pool each summer.
dirt in the plugs hole results in the tool not fully seating along with ill fitting [cheap allen socket] add to the mix someone who doesnt know how to wrench = OOF owner occurred fault.trapped air ???ninja pleeeezzz
