Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It works when I use the switch, but I have no idea if its working at speed.

The M96 motor is not well suited to track use without several modifications.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I just bought my first Porsche, a 2002 Targa and I'm flying out to Phoenix on Thursday to bring it back to Texas. An 1,100-mile road trip in a car I haven't touched yet. I've mapped out back roads that look perfect for this car. I do love working on my cars (I'm an old fart) and relish getting into this one. It has the IMS update, coilovers, semi-solid motor mounts, Fister exhaust, Alpine head unit, and many other updates/fixes. I have so much to learn!!
I'm a track rat in the Mazda MX-5 world. I don't know if I'll track the Targa much.

Congratulations on your sweet Targa from a fellow Targa owner! There's a thread specifically for Targa owners, so feel free to drop a note and/or updates there as well.

Congrats! I literally just did this, picked up the car in SoCal and drive it hills to TN. I shouldve did the back roads and take a little more time like are. Being in LA, I shouldve went to the Petersen Museum as well but oh well. Congrats again!
Congratulations and welcome! Im an ND owner as well (albeit limited to the street), and its pretty amazing how two cars that are equally as fun can be sodifferent.
Day 1 under under my belt. Flew into Phoenix to pick up the car. It looked better in person than I anticipated. The only surprise was the spongy brake pedal. Ill need to bleed the brakes when I get home. Maybe Im biased because my track car is rock solid.
The first leg of the journey is to Payson AZ. A little town in the mountains about 2 hours away. The car rides very rough, even more so than my track-only car. It has D2 Racing coilovers probably with 6/12 springs.
The 2-hour drive out of Phoenix to Payson is fantastic. Once I get out of the city, it starts heading up into the mountains. Its a 4000 foot climb with plenty of curves. A lot of 7% grades, both up and down and the car handles it easily. Topped out at 95 mph going down one of the grades, no shimmy or shake, it was just planted.
The temperature in Phoenix was 117 when I left. The car got to about 200. So Im not worried about the cooling system for the rest of my trip.
This morning I dialed back on the dampers. They were almost full stiff. Hopefully that helps the ride. I also let a smidge of air out of the tires. Im going with 34/42.
Today is 8 hours to Roswell NM.
Good looking car, congratulations. Great trip to take it home! It sounds well sorted. Full stiff seems silly for road use. Maybe good for a cartilage check. Are you on 19" rims?

2nd day and this 20 year old car is better than I expected. Dialing back the coilovers made all the difference. The previous owner wasnt aware that could be done so he didnt drive it much.
The seat is so comfortable. Eight hours on this leg of the journey with a few stops, and I feel great at the end of the day. The car has the normal 20 year old squeaks and creaks inside but I think I can take care of the majority of them. Still its very quiet. Much quieter than I expected.
Im getting the foam bits blow out of the vents. I remember reading about that somewhere, so I have to track that down to fix it. It makes me chuckle to see a new piece of foam somewhere.
Question, is there anything inside the car that tells you that the rear spoiler has lifted? It works when I use the switch, but I have no idea if its working at speed. I cant see it from the inside.
The last leg of the journey tomorrow. I take 380 all the way home. That is if I dont just keep going. 😂
It's a great car. There is no indicator that the rear spoiler has lifted, but there is an indicator if it doesn't lift when it is supposed to. Having a cab, I can just hold my phone up over the windshield and take a picture looking back.
Targa glass roofs squeak. Search here for how to lube it. Same with the foam. Several fixes and threads about it.
Are there really no interesting roads left? Nothing but interstate? Ugh. I don’t envy that.
Its the plastic dash bits and a door regulator rattling for me. Roof is quiet but I will be lubing it anyway. Preventative maintenance is a good thing. Im not sure about the interstate comment. Im not driving any interstates, only secondary roads. Theyve had nice curvy bits.
Sorry about that! I thought "380" was referencing an interstate. I thought my squeaks were dash bits too, spent an inordinate amount of time taking stuff apart up there. Accidentally found the squeak source by opening the roof a tad (it was a chilly rainy day) -- suddenly they all went away.
Enjoy your road trip! I recently drove my newly acquired 996 from Florida back to Texas (San Antonio). I had so much fun that I just ended up driving through.
