In my 99 I had to remove the brake reservoir trim, and unmount the cd changer and amp, disconnect the wires to them and set them aside.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, I haven't found a tutorial about this so here's the question Someone must have spilled some oil in my 996's front trunk, and I want to get the carpets out to clean them better (there's still some residue). The front half of the carpet comes out easy, but the rear not so much. It looks like I need to remove the brake reservoir trim and the CD changer. Anyone's already done this? Anything I need to be wary of? BR, Alex

POST 2Original post

I just did this for the exact same reason myself. In my 99 I had to remove the brake reservoir trim, and unmount the cd changer and amp, disconnect the wires to them and set them aside. After that it was easy peasy. Still have to get to the cleaning of the carpet for me and put it back in haha

I did it this weekend for 99 C2, while scoping out the installation of a new amplifier. Its all pretty easy. The only tricky bits were unplugging the amplifier harnesses, and two of the plastic pop rivets that hold the trunk liner to the back wall were pretty tough to remove. I was glad I had an interior trim removal set. When I removed my carpet I found some evidence that a mouse had been in there, so I was glad to clean things up. When you remove the brake reservoir trim, there is a wire for the trunk light that just pulls off. Its a good time to check if the bulb needs replacing.

Thanks! It's quite easy overall. Only had one of the large pop rivets that would *not* budge, but the hole in the carpet is big enough that you can slide it out leaving the rivet in place. A good dab of cleaning was done, hoping to button everything back together tomorrow.
